Chicken in a Pot

October 10, 2009 by Rachael R

This simple chicken dish is served with a dipping sauce that adds a spicy taste. For color or garnish, you might want to add 1 c. of chopped carrots at the same time that you put in the cabbage.

A similar dish prepared with beef is called shabu shabu, and when fish is used, it is called chirinabe.

Spanish Omelette

A tortilla, or omelette, appears almost daily in a Spanish home. It can be eaten as a main dish at a light supper or as a side dish at the big midday meal, and slices of it can be served as tapas (appetizers). Good hot or cold, the tortilla is usually served hot and the leftovers are refrigerated for a snack.

Irish Beef Stew

September 6, 2009 by Daniel C

With Saint Patrick’s Day only a few days away, it’s time for Irish beef stew. Irish stew originated in Ireland and is popular across Europe. Like most other stews, this stew consists of a variety of diced vegetables and meat simmered in a thick sauce. The sauce gets a lot of its flavor from Irish stout beer; hopefully you can find this because it will make a big difference in the taste of the stew. Apparently there is also a version of this made with lamb, but I have never tried it. This is a perfect recipe for Saint Patrick’s Day. Enjoy.
