Sweetheart Scones – Tender Triangle Dough Baked into Golden Wedges in Time for Valentine’s Day!

Sweetheart Scones

3 cups all-purpose flour
3 teaspoons baking powder
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon salt
2 sticks (1 cup) frozen butter, grated
1 egg, beaten
1 cup vanilla yogurt
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract

milk, optional
Sparkling Sugar, optional

Preheat oven to 425°.

In a bowl, stir together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.

Beat the egg and set aside.

Grate the frozen butter into your flour mixture. (Or you can cut cold butter into your flour mixture using a pastry blender.)

Stir in the egg, yogurt, and vanilla just until combined.

Turn onto a floured surface and knead a few times just until the dough forms a ball. Press into a 9 inch disc.

Cut the disk into eight wedges and place on an ungreased baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Brush the tops with milk and sprinkle with sparkling sugar, if desired.

Bake 12 to 15 minutes or until golden brown. Serve warm with butter or with jam and whipping cream.

  1. I’m with you, Melissa. I could pack a lunch and spend all day at Hobby Lobby! The music is so soothing and comforting for the soul! I am going to try these scones! They look wonderful!

  2. OmG, they are definitely going on the list! We love scones, especially cinnamon ones. These look great. Ty, Tom and Melissa. Chef’s kiss…

  3. Nice! Talk about timing! I usually watch your videos by myself, but my wife happened to sit in on this one. Guess who wants me to do scones for Valentine's Day? Thanks Tom and Melissa!

  4. I do enjoy this channel and the delightfuy hosts very much. So many interesting elements to cuisine and kitchen equipment procurement. Have you ever considered using Monk Fruit "sugar" as a substitute in your recipes? Or EVOO/Avocado Oils as deemed appropriate? Delicious food can also be prepared with nutrition in mind. Just want y'all around for a long time….Blessings and Grace Upon Grace.

  5. Thank you for the demonstration of kneading the dough. I have been intimidated by scones before; since watching this video I believe that I can do these! Thank you again and stay warm.❤

  6. Those would be great any time but especially on Valentines Day. Thanks for sharing with us Tom and Melissa. Stay safe and keep up the fun around there and the fantastic recipes. Fred and family.

  7. I LOVE The way this Scone Recipe Looks❣️ Your instructions and Presentation were very helpful to me and I appreciate it! I have made scones a few times, BUT the crumbly dough intimidated me! I heard/or read somewhere that you aren’t supposed to handle the dough very much so it will stay cold…so my dough was a bit crumbly and not easy to place on the pan. The scones (strawberry-lemon) were delicious but not as PRETTY as yours!! I will definitely make your scone recipe!! I Love Jam & Preserves…I am thinking (for me) ORANGE MARMALADE❣️ I hope that you Both have a very Happy Valentines Day❣️❣️🫶🏻👩🏻‍🦳 Kathie B.

  8. I gave a homemade loaf of bread to a relative and she gave me strawberry freezer jam and it was amazing. Thank you.

  9. When you have grandchildren you will be in Michaels and Hobby Lobby even more. Birthdays Christmas and just to have projects to do together when you have them at your house

  10. That's because your butter was frozen, so there's a trade off cutting in or having to work the dough more and chance tough scones you should have mentioned that

  11. I've eaten scones but haven't made them but I'll give this a try. This scones look fluffier than the ones you buy. Thanks for the recipe. Hobby Lobby is my absolute favorite place to shop, in fact I was there today so even cold !! temperatures can't deter me. Stay warm.

  12. I guess I might fall in the category of those "afraid to try", and that is probably because I never thought that scones would be anything I would care for. I was always told they were like a biscuit so my thought was, I make good biscuits so why do scones? I have never even looked at a scone recipe, let alone watch them being made. Now that I watched this video, there is a big difference in these and biscuits. I am sure to try them now. Thank You, Tom and Melissa.

  13. My husband loves scones, but he always wants some type of fruit in them (like craisins or blueberries). I'm happy with a good biscuit. That vanilla yogurt has sugar in it.

  14. These look great. 👍. Melissa really likes them. Glad you make them for her. Loved this video. Thanks for sharing this with us 👍🙏❤️😁👏⭐️❤️❤️❤️

  15. My only experience was Wisconsin's was my wife went to the store and bought some cause we all thought they were English. Donuts. Were you surprised but I had to put ice in my coffee so I could drink it because the scones were so dry. That I needed the coffee to help.Wash it down my throat so I had a good experience with scones , but I may have to give you a recipe a try

  16. Sure, we all do things differently, but here is an idea, try suggesting a variation rather than critiquing. We all choose to watch this channel because of the relationship between two loving people , their devotion to their faith, their detailed and careful receipe preparation, cleanliness and neatness and clarity of presentation. Yes, I have the cookbook where I make any notations for my reference. I can use less less sugar without critizing whatever you use. I appreciate the teaching style and reminisce.

  17. I’m going to try this. It looks easy. I can’t help wondering if you have a chocolate scone recipe. I know I’ve never had a chocolate scone but it sure sounds good.
