Cheap vs Expensive Veg Food in Meghalaya!! Worth It? 🥗💚
Meghalaya’s vegetarian food doesn’t get talked about enough, so I decided to try it at two very different price points in Shillong. One meal came from a restaurant featured in the Condé Nast Top 50 Restaurants in India, while the other was a humble Khasi veg meal from Trattoria in Police Bazaar. Same city, same cuisine, completely different expectations.
At the higher end, I tried nei iong fried rice paired with fresh greens and a beautifully balanced tamarind drink. Subtle flavours, delicate textures, and ingredients used with a lot of thought. Refined, elegant, and clearly built for a fine dining experience.
Then came the value meal from Trattoria. Nine different dishes, including mashed potatoes, an aloo sabzi that genuinely surprised me, hill rice, sesame dal, and bold local flavours that felt comforting and honest. Rynsan is good really good, Tratoria is overrated n costly there's a new restaurant in Police Bazar called the Meghalaya Cuisine it almost same price as tratoria but taste way better and it's a restaurant

Go to Tibet kitchen in police bazaar, their thenthuk gyathuk are top notch. It leaves a flavour in your mouth that you would crave for years
