This Chippy Is Like Going Back In Time!

Today we’re in Wakefield, revisiting a true British institution: George A. Green Fisheries. A fish and chip shop that doesn’t rely on seaside views or postcard charm, just an uncompromising commitment to doing things one way and doing them brilliantly.

These are old-school fish and chips cooked in beef dripping. Dark, heavy, crunchy and full of character. Three years ago, this place left a serious impression. Since then, we’ve eaten fish and chips all over the country. Award winners, coastal legends, delicate modern takes. So the question is simple: does this still stand up?

From the first crunch of the chips to the crackle of the batter and that legendary fishcake, this was pure nostalgia and craftsmanship rolled into one. No shortcuts. No trends. Just a product that’s stayed in its lane for decades and mastered it.

  1. It says a lot about our third world country when a retired pensioner cannot afford a portion of our national dish because our pensions are the lowest in europe.

  2. When there is no donner meat and there is English speaking staff behind the counter….You know its a proper chippy 🇬🇧👍

  3. I really miss my fish and chips and watching your programme got my belly rumbling. I used to live down the road from the Skyliner fish and chip shop in Crossgates, Leeds. It was voted number 1 years ago. I moved to Thailand 11yrs ago and have been served in some resturants at feeble attempts to make fish and chips. You cannot beat English fish and chips made in England.

  4. I’m gonna go there today or latest tomorrow. Been on a look out for dark chips but never ever seen any! Thanks 🤩

  9. Great looking Fish and Chips. That Fishcake is something else. Beef dripping is the key. The batter looked thick and crispy. Plus amazing value in Wakefield. I'm in London and the average Fish and Chips is about £14 now.

  10. Great gestured. A true gentleman. The crunch as you bit into the first chip told the story. Looked amazing.
