How to Cook CABBAGE & BACON FRY Simple One Pan meal!
Cabbage doesn’t need boiling.
This is a proper old-school way to cook cabbage — fried in bacon fat with dried chillies for warmth and flavour.
Most people hate cabbage because it’s cooked badly. In this video, I show you how to cook cubed cabbage with bacon and dried chillies so it’s golden, savoury, and actually worth eating.
This is cheap, honest food — one pan, a few ingredients, and no nonsense. Chunky cabbage cubes pick up colour, bacon adds depth, and dried chillies give gentle heat without overpowering the dish.
Perfect as a side, or just eaten straight from the pan.
If you like simple food done properly, this one’s for you.

I dont like white cabbage I suppose I could use a savoy? I love green cabbage and could I use sprouts instead? Looks delish ❤
The colour of Backyards version looks terrible, would be better if he used fine shredded spring greens. Try harder Backyard, not impressed.
A layer of cabbage in a roasting tin then a sprinkle of parmesan cheese, then do that again several times. Then place the baking tin of cabbage and parmesan into the oven for 20 mins. Cook the bacon / prosciutto in a pan. Take the cabbage and parmesan out when ready then add the bacon / prosciutto. Italian classic. Backyards version is OK I guess, but not really great.
I love fried cabbage!
Looks great 😊
THANK YOU CHEF RIK FOR YOUR AWESOME TUTORIAL AS ALWAYS ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Fine. Except the vinegar, that's a typical English mistake.
Just the recipe I was looking for! <3
I love your recipes with few and cheap ingredients, lots of veggies, and then you make it tasty. What other greens would this work for…? Swiss chard? Spinach?
Looks nice..gives me some ideas…
I appreciate your recipes that don’t break the bank. Unfortunately, at 78, I have to watch fats and carbs, but I took one of your recipes and made a casserole with what I had on hand. Rice, pineapple chunks, leftover chicken, chopped cabbage and carrots, chicken broth, onions and pepper and parsley. I added a little low-fat mozzarella on top and the grandies loved it! Thank you for all your hard work. My father Scottish by the Clyde River and mother Yorkshire.
Wow mouth watering! I know it smells great and taste great. My cousin loves to make this dish. I haven't ever had this but I absolutely love cabbage and you can never go wrong with bacon.
Bacon and cabbage is pretty much the national dish of Ireland. The trick to that is cooking the cabbage with the water from the boiled bacon. I do approve of this method too, Chef. And good man for using garlic and chilies.
Just caught this one few days late😂 love this dish I make a vegetarian one with apple in the place of bacon then serve with pork chops, and egg noodles with caraway of course. I make a cabbage and bacon soup with carrot, and potatoes the vinegar caraway dill and sour cream.I was thinking this would be good with spam too, thanks Rik.😊
a little dijon mustard is great with this.
Pretty good. Mine has a minty taste to it, probably the caraway seeds. I bought the seeds a long time ago for another recipe and never used it since, so took up the chance to put a full tablespoon of it in the fry. I will make mash potatoes tommorow and this will be a proper side / main dish to go along with it.
Brilliant! At long last a good, healthy breakfast – that's fast to make before going to work!
Sir – what if I sliced cooking apples (different from 'eating' apples) into the mixture – and if so – at what point should I put them into the frying pan.
Please produce more – rapid protein breakfast dishes for 'before going out to work'. Thank you.
I thought to myself, 'well I cook it'. Then you mentioned the Irish. Yep. My surname gives a not too subtle clue.

Great winter time grub after working outdoors all day 👍

what is german sausage they have about a hundred sausages?
Beautiful, I add some chopped apple with the cabbage. My Irish parents cooked this as a cheap staple. 😊
Delicious.
Yummy 👍👍Australia
Hi Rik, I just made this simple but very tasty recipe but i omitted the chillies the family don't like spice 🙄 and added lemon juice instead of vinegar it was a great success thanks for sharing👍
As a Southerner from the US, this is a normal dish that I grew up on and is beyond delicious!!! Give it to your Rabbit lol . I grew up eating Rabbit too but that's for another day. Thanks Rik.
Made this the other night, and had hotdogs with this dish on top.
My Grandkids loved this.
However some kids wanted grated cheese on top also.placed under grill so cheese melted a touch.sooooo good.Thankyou❤
This is most of the way to making my style of Concannon. Well done
