I finally made it to Iraq, and this is Day 1 in Basra, Iraq! I was expecting kebabs and lamb… but first meal was an amazing Iraqi seafood feast!

After landing I dropped off my bags at the hotel and we went straight to eat my first ever meal in Iraq.

Basra is the only major city in Iraq near the Persian Gulf (Arabian Gulf), and so it’s the best city in Iraq to eat seafood, and they have a big seafood culture… so that’s why this meal was unexpected, and it would be the only seafood meal we will have on our Iraq food tour across the country.

After lunch we explored Basra, the local fish market, the waterfront at Shatt al-Arab river with an amazing sunset, and finally, my first taste of Iraqi style shawarma called gus.

What are my first impressions and thoughts of Iraq?

A huge thank you Aya from https://enliltravels.com/ for arranging my trip to Iraq.

  1. Mark There is only persian Gulf that goes back 4000 years and it is in Greek and Roman history books. There is no Arabian Gulf . Please correct your historical perspective.

  2. One of the fishes of Persian Gulf is Humour which is amazing, I have tried it in Dubai, we don't have it in Israel.

  3. The name Persian Gulf has a long and well-documented historical record across ancient civilizations, medieval Islamic geography, and modern international usage.

  4. Thank you so much for your info about iraq. I met many people here in Canada 🇨🇦 and they told me iraqi people are the most friendly and generous people in the world. Thank you ❤
