Tasty Kadala Curry 🤎 | Perfect with Puttu & Chapati

It tastes similar to varatharacha style but it’s not the traditional one. This simple method gives a rich taste with roasted spices, coconut, and mustard tempering. Perfect combo with hot puttu, chapati, or even rice. Try this and let me know how you like it ❤️
Ingredients:
1 cup black chana (kadala), soaked for 8 hours
1 sliced onion
1 chopped tomato
2 green chilies
½ tsp turmeric powder
Salt to taste
Water as required
For grinding:
1½ tsp coriander powder
1 tsp chili powder
½ cup grated coconut
¼ tsp fennel seeds
Water to grind
Other:
A pinch of garam masala (or chicken masala)
For tempering:
1 tbsp coconut oil
½ tsp mustard seeds
Curry leaves
2 dry red chilies
1 tsp chili powder
Method:
Soak black chana for 8 hours. Wash well and add to a pressure cooker.
Add onion, tomato, green chilies, turmeric powder, salt, and enough water.
Close the lid and cook for 7–8 whistles (depending on your cooker).
Lightly roast coriander powder and chili powder on low flame for 1 minute.
In a mixer jar, add grated coconut, roasted powders, fennel seeds, and little water. Grind to a fine paste.
Once pressure is released, open the cooker and add the ground paste. Add water if needed and mix well.
Add a pinch of garam masala and let it boil well.
Heat coconut oil in a pan. Add mustard seeds. When it splutters, add curry leaves, dry red chilies, and chilli powder
Pour this tempering over the curry and mix well.
Serve hot with puttu, chapati, or rice. Super tasty and comforting 🤎
