It’s our Mother’s Day special on Dish and to mark the occasion, we’re joined by award-winning actor and proud potato enthusiast, @jennifer.garner!
Known for her roles in Alias, the cult rom-com 13 Going on 30, and more recently The Last Thing He Told Me, Jennifer is also a mum of three, making her the perfect guest for the day. A self-confessed “serious mom cook”, her love of food has been shaped by her own mum’s influence, with “Pat’s brisket” still holding a special place in her heart. That passion has even led to her much-loved Pretend Cooking Show on Instagram, where Pat has made a few brilliant cameos over the years.
With Mother’s Day around the corner, what better way to celebrate than with a proper roast? Angela serves tender roast beef with crispy golden hasselback potatoes and a bright chimichurri. There’s Yorkshire puddings too, a first for Jennifer, alongside blanched spring greens. To finish, the Waitrose wine experts pair it with a bottle of Doña Paula El Alto Single Vineyard Malbec.
Between chats about bread rolls, big American salads and the return of her character Hannah in series two of The Last Thing He Told Me on Apple TV+, Jennifer shares a very fishy on-set story from 13 Going on 30, the Hollywood origins of her go-to roast potato method, and why she’ll always need a slice of pizza in her life.

This podcast has actually got me cooking. Still in the following recipes to an inch of there life’s situation. But I’ve surprised myself not quite at Angela’s level yet 😂
So messed up that restauratants ever did this or still do 😵💫🤢
Here in Denmark we have a restaurant called Mash. It's common knowledge that if you look rich enough you get seated in the front and by windows, and there's a backroom for "the garbage"
Curb Your Enthusiasm in Season 10, Episode 7, titled "The Ugly Section" is about that.
I think it is only in US they put good looking people on certain side in restaurants. Or is it practiced in other countries as well?
