America’s Fast Food Restaurants are EMPTY & OVERPRICED in 2026

Fast food prices in America 2026, inflation, cost of living crisis, shrinking portions, restaurant price hikes and Americans cutting back are becoming impossible to ignore. America’s fast food restaurants are sitting empty while menu prices soar and families feel the squeeze of higher food costs. In this video, we break down why major chains are struggling, why drive-thrus aren’t as packed as they used to be, and how inflation and rising operating costs are reshaping the fast food industry.
Across America, consumers are pushing back against $15–$20 combo meals, smaller portions, and constant price increases. As the cost of living crisis deepens, Americans are reevaluating convenience, cooking more at home, and questioning whether fast food is worth it anymore. We’ll look at economic trends, consumer behavior shifts, corporate pricing strategies, wage pressures, food inflation, and what this means for restaurants in 2026.
Is this just inflation, or are we witnessing a larger change in American spending habits? From empty dining rooms to sticker shock at the drive-thru, something has clearly shifted. If you’ve noticed fewer customers, higher prices, or declining food quality, you’re not alone. Let’s talk about what’s really happening to fast food in America and what it signals about the broader economy.

This is why I started cooking chicken thighs in the air fryer. I’m in better shape and so is my wallet.
Investigad quienes son los verdaderos responsables de esto, descansan los sábados.
I quit eating fast food last years. I'm not a masochist.
Most of these restaurant workers earn minimum wage hourly and can not afford the health insurance
Meanwhile, in 2025 Wendys CEo base salary is $825,000 with annual performance bonuses of up to 200%
In 2025, Pizza Hut CEO annual base salary was $1.1 million
In 2025 Chipotle CEO base salary was $1 million with a potential cash bonus of nearly $1.2 million, an additional restricted stock award valued at $3.5 million, plus a $200,000 aircraft allowance and a maximum potential package could top $11 million, if Chipotle’s stock price continues to perform
Welcome to New Zealand prices.
those who survive to find a new diet will probably live longer than they otherwise would have.
Panera soup kitchen is now charging $71.62. 😂🎉
When we go to a regular restaurant, it is usually over $100.
Newsflash! These restaurants don’t need broke people or those making less than six figures. They will manage quite well even being a quarter full.
Its not fast, its not good, and its not affordable
Whats the point?!
In 2018 a Spicy Chicken combo at my local Wendy's cost about $6.50. Now it costs $12. On top of nearly doubling in price the piece of chicken is now only about 2/3 the size it used to be.
Fast food is not food
Stupid people will.
If you accept EBT you can raise prices as high as you want. Tax payers are picking up the tab either way.
Are we "Great Again", yet?
If not for the apps and the "rewards" programs and the online app deals I wouldn't step foot in fast food restaurants anymore.
This is what Socialism looks like. Thanks Joe.
Btw: about 10 years ago in Denmark it cost a family of 4 $350 American dollars to eat at a pizza 🍕 joint. Nothing special.
Mrs Turkey sub doesn't look like she's ever missed a meal. In fact, she should miss a few
Buy food or meat In costco business centre and you can eat steak for 2 weeks or more every dinner for way less than what u pay in restaurants
😢 i know lots of people who make 100k a yeak but they don't eat at popeyes, they cook food much healthier and they know what they put in it
It started bc Newsom raised the minimum wage wage to $20 per hour
This type of food is fun occasionally but it’s bad for you so maybe this is great news.
The problem is inflation… The fast food restaurants raise the prices of food items based on their import pricing…. With Trump tariffs biting into the import value of food items, it's definitely going to bite
I got to the point where I’d rather go hungry than be fkt by these organizations
Was just at In-N-Out in N. Texas at 12:30 AM and it was packed.
Went into a McDonald's the orher day in California, no cashier😂😂😂😂😂, no menu overhead😂😂😂😂😂, bunch of employees that dont give a fuc#, had to go over to the help yourself order board to search prices, holy crap, saw the prices and walked out. Never again, you guys have lost me forever😂😂😂😂😂…….dont even tell me to order on the app😂😂😂
those americans are funny, they lived under a rock for so long. welcome to the land of the fee, america corp.
Fast food forgot what it is, n fast casual got significantly more efficient n increased quality. N the only innovation that came from fast food was menu items and trying to make less fast food items at higher prices. Just a colossal fail by all involved. They also discouraged family which is prob the biggest issue. As they pushed out playgrounds, n unique settings, n crowns n what not, they wrecked any community feel. They found a balance when they built on both ends for a bit. The value/dollar menu stuff balancing the higher reaches. But then they obliterated that as well. Just very stupid decision making.
The business model was destroyed by the left. Fast food was never made to be a household supporting job. It was for students, moonlighters, seniors, and the disabled. Part timers. Fast food would be alive today if they had required drug testing.
I don't do fast food. Period.
I had to laugh at the Door Dash lady complaining about the burger price. lol😂
Why do people have YouTube therapy sessions in their cars?
Just eat at home, get a rice cooker, basmati rice, beans, spices and you can feed yourselves nutritiously inexpensively. Only buy in chains when they run a 5.00 meal deal occasionally, otherwise don’t do it. Prices still have not come down since the Covid lockdown. Corps still think they can get away with higher prices, same as the auto industry is doing now. Put a stop to it and don’t buy.
I think, if less and less people can afford their food their sales will drop. But instead of taking the hit for a year, they choose to increase the prices so they still have a good profit from the customers that do come.
I ate at Beef O Brady’s on a Friday at noon. It’s been years since I’ve been there. The restaurant was half empty. It was always packed in the past before I retired. The prices didn’t equal the quality/quantity of the food. They actually charged $2.50 for me to trade the fries for a small Caesar salad (lettuce and croutons). Pretty sad.
Why do you people buy this stuff after knowing the price
A Boston Globe article from Monday, March 9, 2026, argues that high hospital bills in the U.S. are driven by market failures, with providers leveraging pricing power instead of delivering more value. It points out that Americans don’t use more health care than people in other wealthy countries but pay much more, with hospitals often charging 2.5 to 3 times Medicare rates. The authors suggest capping commercial prices at 300 percent of Medicare and gradually lowering them to 200 percent as a practical way to rein in extreme costs. Citing examples from Germany, Switzerland, and the Netherlands, they note that price regulation can work alongside competition, keeping care affordable without sacrificing quality. They conclude that when markets fail, policy needs to step in with safeguards to protect patients and control rising expenses.
You get several toxic chemicals for a toxic price from toxic bad paid employees. STOP IT !!!
In-N-Out is still reasonably priced and busy. Very busy. No wonder. And their menu is super simple. Burgers, fries, milkshakes, sodas, coffee. And their food and service is pretty good too.
I guess tRUMP is failing on his number one promise to bring food prices down. No surprise to me.
Tourism in the U.S. is in a huge decline. All related industries will suffer. Lodging, food, etc. no surprise to me.
The only thing I used to buy were france fries. I do not longer. The price is insane nowadays. I make it at home now.
Apparently all the tobacco people have gone into food production and have brought all their moral qualities with them
She just said you can now do the buy now pay later for fast food 😂😂. That is some diabolical crap right there. If you do that then you need your head examined because you are clearly a moron. 😂😂
That’s a MAHA/PE combo.
I went Hardee’s,1 single bacon cheeseburger,1 small cheeseburger,2 fries, $18.00.and it sucked
❤❤❤❤❤
Half of your food are chemicals.
