Trying viral TikTok recipes that are a little outside my comfort zone today 👀 Some were immediate wins, some might need a second attempt…and that’s part of learning.
I’ve been wanting to branch out and try some new dishes this year, and a few of these recipes called for ingredients I don’t normally keep on hand. Instead of hunting across multiple stores, I ordered things like Fly By Jing Sichuan chili crisp, Thrive Market hot pickles, and Kevin’s stir fry sauces from Thrive Market.
Thrive Market is an online, membership-based grocery store that I use when I need specific pantry items or harder-to-find ingredients delivered to my door. I especially appreciate that you can filter by dietary needs (gluten-free, allergies, etc.), which makes it easier if you’re cooking around restrictions. They were also the first online-only retailer to accept SNAP EBT, which expands access for a lot of families.
Thank you to Thrive Market for sponsoring today’s video and making this experiment a little easier to pull off.
Let me know in the comments which recipe I should revisit because sometimes you’ve got to try something twice to really appreciate it.

Grillo's Pickles are always available at my TARGET!
Both brands of pickles in these videos on TikTok are sold at basically every grocery chain. They are cold and typically where the lunch meat is. Made just like the recipe with the exact ingredients is sooo delicious! Addicting 🤤 Sometimes trying a viral recipe but new for us, duplicating it exactly is kinda important to get the viral result.
Love this channel, can you recreate the taco bell rancho steak burrito?
Pickled jalapeños would probably work well in that dip instead of regular Pickles.
Your bok choy should have been washed before using it. It can have dirt or sand. Just pull the leaves apart and wash well and dry with paper towels or clean dish towel.
I think that an Italian version of the baked dumpling dish would be good. Mix some tomato based pasta sauce with Alfredo sauce, pour it over the dumplings in the pan. Maybe add some small button mushrooms and chunks of zucchini. Top with some mozzarella cheese near the end of the cooking time with the foil removed. ❤ I plan to make it soon.
Now I want to go back and find your soup! I'm a fan of Vietnamese and Thai food and appreciate you "branching out". I've thought, I have to get hired by one of my favorite restaurants just so I can know how to make these dishes, but maybe Rebecca is a better route! The traditional dishes seem to require a long list of ingredients with a lot of chopping and this route you get a taste without the labor/investment. Thanks for bringing us along on your palate stretching journey!
I think this is a bold way to try chili crisp. Try topping regular fried eggs with a little chili crisp. Also, like others have said, start with Lao Ga Ma.
Came here for the dump and bake dumplings. I'm in East TN where you can't find bok choy, but when I lived in Philadelphia I loved eating sauteed bok choy. Chili crisp eggs looked good.
Glad you’re trying new recipes I think more people should try different flavors from around the world. I made the dumpling lasagna and Ive added that to my regular rotation.
If you want to give bok choy a fair taste test, pan fry it with a bit of neutral oil and stir in a blend of oyster sauce and soya sauce toward the end of cooking. A bit of sweet soya sauce is also a nice addition but it's not essential.
Hey Rebecca…if you cut the green onions up higher and stick the whites with root in a cup with 1/2 inch water and set in kitchen window you can have never ending green onions basically for free.
love the trying different foods! eggs + rice is my go to breakfast, but I don't do chilli oil, there's a scrambled egg recipe with soy sauce that I've seen onlie but I'm afraid to make, also: egg drop soup, I always see this one and it looks so yummy but I feel like i would mess it up. would love to see you try some more asian recipes!
Please stop chewing directly into the microphone. It sounds just like chewing with your mouth open.
That definitely was NOT chili crisp that you used, more of a chili sauce/paste that was also sweet. Chili crisp is a very specific product and preparation, and like others have said, Lao Gan Ma is your safest/easiest bet. It should be extremely crispy already straight from the jar, not spreadable or sweet. That Fly By Jing stuff is a weird commercialized Frankenstein paste that is supposed to grab your attention on a grocery shelf.
The Grillos are at WinCo in our area! (I’m near Puyallup) they have a couple of flavor options, in the refrigerated section though (by the deli sliced meats and cheese) not with the pantry pickles. I believe also at Costco
Costco usually has Grillo’s pickles.
Fun and informative video.
Thanks for the Thrive coupon!
The cabbage part of the bok choy is more enjoyable than the leaves in my opinion.
Personally I don't like Fly By Jing, but if you ever try again i'd recommend Lao Gan Ma chili crisp! <3 also wanyed to add, bok choy is kind of like collard greens, in that they need some good cooking time to get less bitter. i like them more in soups that have a long time to simmer. Also as other people have mentioned, baby bok choy is less bitter ☺
Recently came across your channel – I absolutely love this content! ^-^ Love the budget consciousness – need more of this as prices are crazy!!
Cholula makes the best chili crisp. It's so freaking good
The explanation is straightforward and easy to understand.
Rebecca, the meal planner sheets from 6 months ago (your last posting) has a broken link for the last 4 months
Just an idea, next time you make the dumplings and you want a vegetable in there, use sautéed cabbage, broccoli, or carrots. Maybe even some onions!
The Trader Joes dumpling bake has become a go-to for quick weeknight dinners. I actually usually use their little chicken wontons and a mix of veggies including cabbage, broccoli, green onion, carrot, and even baby corn. I use the soyaki sauce instead of curry and coconut milk and top with some chili crunch and it works beautifully. If I don't want to do a while big pan of it, I will use a microwave steamer to cook the veggies, and then heat everything up together with the sauce in the microwave and it comes out perfect. That makes it easier to make a single serving. The same thing is true with the enchilada bake from Trader Joes, using the bean and cheese taquitos, the pulled smoked chicken, the enchilada sauce, and cheese. You can make the taquitos in the air fryer then top then with the sauce and cheese and microwave to heat the sauce/cheese. I prefer this method because then the taquitos don't get soggy between meals. My husband doesn't always like these types of meals so it is nice to be able to have single servings and then just pair it with some veggies.
When life gives you dumplings, turn them into baked panko or fried pork ravioli. Who knew the next hybrid dumpling : )
I bet adding peanut butter to the sauce and some crushed peanuts on top would scale it up a bit. Maybe drizzle with fresh lemon juice on top after cooking with the chopped scallions. Yum.
Trust meeee remake that pickle dip but add some jalapeno also!!!
as someone who grew up eating chili oil and still loves it, fly by jing is not good to me! I was so surprised when I first tried it. try lao gan ma when you can!
Grillos pickles are from Boston! They're sold in a lot of places around here now. They used to be only available to purchase from a wooden cart in Downtown Boston, it was very exciting when they made it into supermarkets in the area.
Love that you got a thrive sponsorship they are a great compnay they offer free memeberships to teachers and college students and low income people. not sure if they take snap but they may as well.
Also not a fan of bok choy either and i know it's super good for you but not a fan i haven't tried it in years but maybe one day i will try it again in case my taste buds change.
Okay definitely need to try this dumpling bake!! ❤ love getting new ideas for supper
the egg and rice for breakfast, my brothers chinese exchange student would eat the for breakfast every day
Awe. The kitchen no longer speaks dollartree dinners.
Seconding many people saying but it’s not the right kind of chilli oil for the eggs.
You need a crispy chilli oil and the one you have is more of a condiment sauce. Like the difference between using dry crispy fried onions and an onion relish. Different flavour profile, different texture but both onion things.
Look at you, with your sponsorship! Get it, girl! Love to see it.
I love chilli crisp eggs but tried another option and loved it…. try it with pesto and either parm or feta! So very tasty!
