Trying Every Restaurant on the NYT 2025 Top 100 List – Kono
Went back to Kono, a yakitori spot that made the The New York Times Top 100 list again this year after appearing last year as well. They specialize in chicken and use every single part of the animal which makes for a really unique dining experience. I actually enjoyed it a lot more this time around which just proves itβs always worth giving restaurants a second try.

Chicken tail/butt is actually v tasty but it depends if you're used to eating the collagen-y pieces of chicken. It can be quite jarring if u haven't before
402$ dinner for what is basically half a chicken cooked different ways (476$ if you decide to tip). Ain't no way that place is a top 100 restaurant unless voting is done among people who earn 7 figures and supersnobs. Don't get me wrong the meals looked well prepared but the prices sheesh… Value for money is out of wack.
If you ever go to Japan again, try chicken liver, chicken meatball, and chicken ovaries at a good yakitori. You can also try the chicken thigh with their green onions, itβs soooo good. Sometimes they would have toasted dried fish fins as a side so you can nibble on it while you wait/with a drink, those are pretty good too.
that is a SCAM oh my lord that is so much money for so little yakitori. girl come to japan every street corner has an amazing yakitori place and you can get five times that amount for a fraction of the price and i promise itll be just as yummy and varied

Looks great, but just go to a regular yakitori place for the same great skewers, without the truffle stuff, and $20 or less. π

That price for chicken is crazy also using parts of the chicken that often aren't used and so will be cheaper (I suppose they'd be buying their own whole chicken and butchering it themselves, I guess?)
It looks good, but nearly 500 bucks for that is absurd. Iβve spent very serious money on tasting menus before so Iβm not one of those people who thinks any expensive meal is a waste, but that was almost entirely just yakitori.
