What Chefs Cook When They DON’T Feel Like Cooking

Believe it or not, but most of the time, chef’s are looking for the most basic meals to feed themselves when they’re not serving everybody else. We don’t want any more ribeyes, lobsters, or foie gras, we want quick, easy, cheap, that’s it. But it doesn’t mean bland or boring, these are dishes I made when I was in the restaurant world or at home after a shift that are memorable and that I shared with coworkers and connected over, and I’m pretty sure you’ll feel the same way once you try them

  1. I just sat down to watch youtube while I ate breakfast and I had made a Gordon Ramsey version of your eggs on toast and saw the thumbnail and was like, "hey that looks familar!"

  2. Why do people insist on repeating verifiably false information? Salt in eggs early doesn't make them too watery. It doesn't make them grey, and it doesn't make them tough. This experiment has been done a thousand times by a thousand people and every single time the results show that salting eggs early is better. It denatures proteins making them MORE tender and distributing salt homogeneously allows the egg to hold MORE water than salt added at the end.

  3. What most chefs, in my years of experience, eat when they aren't working is leftovers from whatever they can take home. The internet has a weird notion of what chefs are or the work. Sure, any chef can make these in their off-time. It's not prohibitive, but working as a chef is time consuming. Most of what we eat off hours is not prepping, measuring, sourcing ingredients. It's "give me some calories so I can do it again tomorrow."

  4. 'wait until you see the last recipe, you're going to die!'………………………. it's cereal.

  5. Two fried eggs over medium some soft white bread miracle whip and some shredded cheddar cheese. Now that's a good egg sandwich.

  6. Its funny, most of the time I watch youtube cooking channels because I want to cook. But everyone has those days where you're not feeling it. These were cool to see. The pea pasta looks great, I have a bag of frozen peas and will likely be making that soon.

  7. if I don't feel like cooking, I certainly don't feel like washing the blender 😀 Good looking food tho, I plan to try some of these.

  8. When I was a kid, my friends would come over and all of us would run to the kitchen in the mornings, open the pantry, and stare in awe at how many offerings of cereal my parents would stock up on. Most were sugary to a fault but boy did they taste fantastic with some ice cold whole milk to wash it down. Then drinking the milk afterwards was almost as good as a shake or horchata. Great memories for sure!

  9. Believe it or not, but three big pats of cold from the fridge butter under the peanut butter adds a nice hint of salty goodness to that pbnj sandwich. Works good on banana and peanut butter also.

  10. Tomato bread is SO good. So simple, but mind-blowing good. You don't even have to fry the bread in oil, just basic toasted or grilled is just as good (to make it low calorie).
