in the world of fast food there’s pretty much no argument that McDonald’s would be at the top of the pile but in the Philippines the top of the pile is jollybee and we’re making their iconic [Music] spaghetti Jolly Bee spaghetti now it’s very different for a few reasons by the way I I can do a Filipino accent am I allowed to do that uh no they’re not white I can’t do a Filipino accent no we can only make fun of white people Irish you’re [ __ ] idiot that I can do English I can do Azie kiwi Scott no problem Canadian a I can do all that Swedish Swedish I can do but I can’t do Filipino it’s too bad I believe that the largest Filipino population outside of the Philippines is here in San Diego we love the Filipinos we love their food they’re big part of the Navy here it’s a huge presence in San Diego anyway I digress wait what was I talking about oh I was talking about what makes it different here’s what makes it different a couple things one it’s much sweeter sweeter spaghetti because of some sugar brown sugar and banana ketchup banana ketchup is a massively popular thing in the Philippines way sweeter because the main ingredient is Max banana excellent yes and there’s tomato paste in here sauce or something give the red color but also because in addition to ground beef it’s a meat spaghetti there’s hot dogs in it but not every everyday regular hot dogs that you know or think you know Filipino style hot dogs and you’re going to see them you’re going to be like oh that’s a little crazy anyway it all happens pretty fast this is our love letter to Jolly Bee which by the way if you’ve not been find one and have their Fried Chicken cuz it’s pretty darn good let’s see if we can order and get it here by the time this is all over goes like this hot dogs ground beef business stuff goes in it simmers away boil some pasta done well you put it together then you’re done and we start with with those fabulous hot dogs and they’re there check out that color what do you think it’s neon red these are from a company called Martin Pure Foods I’m not pimping them I’m just saying when I went looking for classic Filipino style hot dogs these are the only ones I could find now if you don’t have these which you know you might not be able to find regular hot dogs will work but what I like about them is this ready that’s cool chance you see that I see it do you like that looks good I like it and it tastes like regular hot dog you could cut them across but honestly isn’t like a diagonal a little bit more interesting I’m going to cut this one up the other one and then we move on time for the pan and even though hot dogs are already cooked we’re going to give these a little blast in the pan first chancy observe that this looks like there’s a smoke ring on them Filipino Smoke Ring okay little oil hey I almost used my Filipino accent I got to be careful all we want to do is just crisp them up a little bit nothing crazy but I think we would all agree if a hot dog is good one in a hot pan crisp up a little bit is a lot better so give this you know two minutes oh they just get better looking with the glistening of the oil all right these guys are done out they come pan goes back on touch more oil and then some finely diced onion give this oh I don’t know give this 2 minutes to soften up and we’ll continue next in a little garlic like that give that about 30 seconds then a tiny bit more oil and some ground beef look it’s the same color as the hot dogs and this we’re just going to bust up I think you know the drill at this point break away till it’s in small bits you bust it you bust it no you bust it bust it that’s the thing right the thing wait busing means what I’m doing no no it doesn’t no but you were saying bust it so oh I see you know what I’m sick of you [ __ ] [Music] you okay here we go salt and pepper because we haven’t done that yet quick stir now we add some fun stuff starting with a little brown sugar remember I told you it’s a little sweeter get used to that why have everything the same all the time when you can have different things now remember our banana ketchup and we go nice beautiful a little tomato paste depth of flavor that’s what that’s going to add and now some pasta sauce Tracy who cuts my hair and is Filipino says that her mother makes it with pasta sauce and it’s outstanding so who am I to argue with Tracy’s Mom I’m not mix this m almost broke into my accent again I’m glad I didn’t we’re going to add some beef broth bring this to a simmer come on little simmer come on come on little simmer where the hell are you five four three very nice two I’m spilling one this comes out we put a lid on know that lid doesn’t fit perfectly but it’s okay turn it down to a low simmer leave it for 15 20 minutes but in the meantime we have a treat guess what came our Jolly Be order we got it we got it let’s have a look look we got a jolly bucket of chicken let’s look at the chicken hello oh hey nice looking chicken huh we got spicy as evidenced by the flag in case you didn’t know and wait to go with the chicken because I went the other day and I got the drill down well I got the drill down cuz Tracy told me you need the gravy to go with it crispy chicken and gravy and wait while we’re here let’s just look at the Jolly spaghetti that we got ready one two three here’s our goal this is what we’re working towards spaghetti Jolly spaghetti one bite I got to know what I’m dealing with right I’m telling you something I think I’m part Filipino I’m digging the food ready here’s the move gravy it’s the only other bite I’m going to have all right we’re moving to the Philippines boys all right we’re about to 8 minutes away so let’s get our pasta going regular everyday spaghetti in Max’s clear pot you totally just had a boat by the way I’m Canadian I can’t help it salted water not heavily salted but salted water 8ish min minutes that’s going to be ready the spaghetti business is going to be ready and then everything comes together all right well all our cooking time is finished there’s the sauce can kill the heat look how beautiful it is and you know the simmering for that 15 20 minutes one of Max’s dog is inside yelling and the simmering for the 15 20 minutes just enhances all the flavors if you don’t have the time that’s okay but you want to make the time now our hot dogs going in hello Jolly Be spaghetti but not quite yet let me trade positions get a bowl and we’re there grab up my spaghetti shake off the excess liquid and in oh beautiful so I’ve made a half a pound of spaghetti half a pound of ground beef couple of the hot dogs I think you’re serving two people for sure uh potentially three if you throw in some salad and some garlic bread or that kind of stuff all right enough of that now for the good stuff and here’s the good stuff I’m telling you there’s something about these crazy hot dogs I don’t know where you get them in your city but in San Diego they came from Seafood City yeah which has a huge which is basically our our Filipino Supermarket okay last but definitely not least there’s a cheese component there you go ladies and gentlemen I present to you Jolly Bee spaghetti we’re on the restaurant menu Jolly spaghetti okay well it looks fantastic to me I think the addition of the hot dogs if the only thing you did was add hot dogss to your regular spaghetti I think you’d be ahead of the game struggling a little to get some on my fork okay oh the melty cheese stringy cheese oh nice come on let’s have some yum quick the gardeners are coming yeah it’s crazy it’s sweeter it’s really interesting damn it there’s nothing about this I don’t like I was just saying to uh the boys I’m not a huge spaghetti uh fan this could be my new favorite banana ketchup you’ll find it online Amazon for sure has it if you can find these hot dogs get them if you can’t you’re still going to be ahead of the game the banana ketchup a little bit of brown sugar just do everything that I did recipes below and I made half a whole recipe make the whole thing if you want to feed more people but damn and if you’re a Filipino subscriber or anybody actually you could
