Best COIMBATORE VEG Food Tour I Ghee Roast + Elan Dosa + Adai + Curd Semiya + Pongal + Satvik Thali

In this episode, we begin our Tamil Nadu food series with a vegetarian food tour of Coimbatore, a city known for its grounded food culture, simple flavours, and deeply trusted eateries. We explore the city with our host Jagdeesh, a local who adds context and meaning to every stop, helping us understand why these places hold such an important place in Coimbatore’s everyday life.

Our first stop is Annapurna, a name that has been part of the city’s food journey for over 50 years. This visit felt especially close to our hearts. There is a quiet sincerity in the way Annapurna functions, and you can sense the trust it has built with generations of diners. We try their ghee roast and masala roast, followed by idli and vada with sambar, and finish with filter coffee. Each dish reflects consistency, care, and a pursuit of quality that has never wavered, making it easy to understand why locals return here time and again.

Next, we head to CS Express, a self-service restaurant known for its simple, no-frills approach to food. We taste their adai, a lentil pancake served with butter and jaggery, along with curd semiya that feels light and comforting.

At Shree Anandhass, we sample their elan dosa paired with three chutneys, with the garlic chutney standing out for its bold flavour. We also try their ven pongal and pineapple kesari, both familiar yet deeply satisfying.

A walk through the neighbourhood leads us to Nellai Perai Lala Corner Sweets, where we taste Tirunelveli halwa and carrot mysore pak, sweets that carry the warmth of long-standing traditions.

Our final stop is Annam Iyarkai Unavagam, a place that left a lasting impression on us. The food here is built around a clear philosophy of mindful eating, using organic produce, native grains, no fried items, and minimal spices. The meal, served on a banana leaf, includes more than 25 items vegetables, chutneys, podi, rice, dal, side dishes, and a sweet. What truly stood out was the thought and care behind every element. Co-owner Uday ji patiently walks us through each dish, explaining the ingredients, methods, and intent, making the meal feel both nourishing and deeply personal.

This tour offers a glimpse into Coimbatore’s vegetarian food culture, where consistency, and a deep respect for ingredients continue to define the way the city eats.
