You always have to do fruit pie warm with ice cream…
The last one near my house closed more than 2 years ago, and recently it was demolished.
You really can't get a much better apple pie from the store than a Marie Callender's. That's a go to holiday tradition for my family. They do indeed make cream ones too, just thaw and serve.
Marie Callender began as a pie baker, selling to other restaurants in the 1940's The first MC restaurant was opened by her son in Orange, California in 1964. They used to sell whole pies out the door of the restaurant with a 25 cent deposit on the tin pie plate. If you returned the plate, you got your 25 cents back. I don't know when they expanded into frozen foods, but I've been buying frozen pies since the 1980's, I think. Razzleberry is my favorite!
Pro tip: Ask for no vegetables, add double stuffing!
My mom's favorite pie was lemon meringue pie. I miss her😢. I used to make her that pie for her birthday cake/pie every birthday.
The turkey dinner is outstanding!
I miss the restaurant 💔
I thought all Marie Callendar locations were closed.
Where's these at ? I'm in southern Indiana. Probably none around here. 😮😮😮
For many years, I would buy their single serving frozen peach pie or frozen berry pies. The peach pies were made with fresh and not canned peaches. It tasted very homemade. This was before they had a microwave version of it. You had to put it in a regular oven.
I would have the peach pie as is, but the berry pies we always had it with ice cream.
At some point, they decided to make a microwave version where you could either microwave it or put it in a regular oven. Bad idea. Even if you cooked it in a regular oven, the microwave pie was not good. I wrote to them and told them how bad it was.
Surprisingly, it had improved. I don’t know if the improvement was based on my complaint or not, but they did improve. But unfortunately, after that, they went from fresh peaches in their own juices to diced canned peaches with a gelatinous goop for the filling. I gave up on their fruit pies after that.
I don’t know if the same thing happened with their berry pies, but I didn’t bother to find out
I always order my blackberry pie with ice cream – sounds like you wish you'd done the same with your "razzleberry" pie, and I agree! Love you two! <3
All of the locations as far as I know, had a separate section just for their pies.
I used to live walking distance from Marie Callendar’s and made the mistake of going there on either Valentine’s Day or Mother’s Day without a reservation and boy was it crowded. I didn’t consider what day it was when I got there so we just had to wait.
Probably in the early 2000s I used to buy their frozen dinners. They had the best frozen dinners compared to anyone else. Theirs were very tasty and you used to get a lot of food. As time went on and shrink-flation took affect, those frozen dinners barely fill you up now. I stopped eating them not because they give you less food but because of the high sodium content.
The things you mentioned at the beginning like the pot roast and stroganoff, they have it in the frozen food section. They have more than just frozen pies in the grocery store.
Even if the pot pie doesn’t normally come with fries, that doesn’t mean you cannot order them.
Thank you so much for this video. My family and I would love to visit the restaurant. Looks amazing. I knew about the frozen food but the other information is new to me. Thank you again.

Why do Brits mix their food together? I watch a lot of British reaction channels and they put two or three foods together without knowing how they taste individually first.
First taste each food by itself then see if it tastes good combined with other items.
Are you allergic to fresh vegetables? One of your fellow Brits had some freshly cooked broccoli when he came to America and he complained because it was crunchy. He’s used to having it boiled to death.
In America is called a crust not a base.
The chocolate pie is a chocolate pudding pie.
I am not laughing at you, just near you….
Marie Callender‘s selling their pies and frozen dinners in the stores has nothing to do with the demise of the restaurants.
They’ve been selling their frozen foods in the grocery store since 1994, 32 years ago.
They might be a victim of vulture capitalism which has ruined many decades old companies.
There was a chain of department stores called Montgomery Wards that had been in business for over 130 years when they shut down. It is literally where Rudolph the rednosed reindeer was “born“.
“Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer originated in 1939 as a promotional character for Chicago-based department store Montgomery Ward. Advertising copywriter Robert L. May created the misfit reindeer, inspired by his own childhood experiences and love for Lincoln Park Zoo deer, for a free children's booklet. The story, about a bullied reindeer whose glowing nose saves Christmas, became a huge success, leading to a hit song by May's brother-in-law and the classic stop-motion TV special.”
I believe it’s twice a year their fresh baked whole pies go on sale at their restaurants.
You two are the best customers to have at a restaurant. Fun, easy to get along with and you both love food like I do. The turkey dinner looked fabulous and I love chicken pot pie.☺♥
Love Marie Callender everything. Pies especially! Apple with streusel topping, French silk, key lime, coconut, lemon….❤ give me a pie & coffee, I’m a happy girl.
You mentioned you had a 3 hour drive home. I know you live in San Diego, just incase you didn't know there is a Marie Callenders in La Mesa, you can see from the 8 freeway .
I Never Knew Boston Market Had A Diner Or That Dental Health Was A Thing, God Save The Queen.
I like her pot pie a lot the flaky crust inside is not watery all around a good pot pie. Love you guys videos always good vibes. Be safe be blessed.
Been going since the 70s. The frozen store tv dinners and pies came way later. The quiche is out of this world.
Back in the 80s, there was a pie restaurant in Chicago that the merengue was twice that height. They had a special box for it. Back then, a while pie was $5.
It seems the restaurants are on the way out. The grocery store "Marie Callanders" brand is actually owned by a huge food conglomorate. I think it's ConAgra, but I may be wrong…. Anyway, the restaurants and the grocery division are owned and operated separately. A savvy investment group could do very well buying the restaurants, freshening the decor and branding, and hiring great managers to breathe new life into the brand. The name still means something, and that means alot in any business, but especially food!….
There is a restaurant just off the 8 freeway in La Mesa, CA
To me, the restaurant came first. We use to go there 40 years ago in Reno. I never saw the products until some years later.
😋🧡🧡🧡😋
Nicola love hair up that way. My wife make a lemon meringue so tart you will pucker with every bite.
restaurant first
Saw these all the time as a kid. If you haven't tried Long John Silver's it was based on British Fish N Chips shops. I recommend the Alaskan specials when they have them. My aunt loved the chicken .The top only is the "pot pie" as I know it, two crusts are "pies''. It is often done at home with pop-the-can biscuits and leftover turkey from Thanksgiving. I do not know who decided a "pot pie" is a two-crusted pie, just with meat. Possibly from the frozen ones. Those give you alot of crust very little filling and cheap gravy.
Their coconut cream pie is the best and so is the cornbread-it’s almost like cake.
Man this brings back memories. I ate at Marie Callender’s every Friday for five years in San Diego . Thank you guys for sending me down memory lane.
It has good food. But they overextended several decades ago, sadly. So, we don't have one in our town ;-(
REally??? Cant get fish and chips here…?????????????? wtf are you cyberprogrammed with????
You all are so fun! Thanks for the entertainment!
I remember being surprised to see Marie Callender's pies in the freezer section for the first time! Always used to have to go to the restaurant to buy the pies. I don't even remember the menu, because we only ate there once or twice ever. It was good, but the money was saved for the pies.
THEY MOST DEFINITELY HAVE THE "SWEET PIES " 😂 I got two of those as my groceries this week especially if I was going to be snowed with my husband and I we live in East Tennessee and we're currently dealing with the fact that it's not stopping yet since Friday around 5 pm it's currently 1am on Sunday and we probably have 12+ inches we will measure in the morning anyway I have the lemon meringue and the chocolate chip or chocolatey one you have eaten I have both in my fridge they are apart of the " Thaw & Serve" I just store them in my freezer and then take them out and thaw before I serve I have them in my fridge right now because I might be start to eat some tomorrow bc my husband has already ate a slice of the chocolate one 😂 well I thought it was funny how your tasting these at the same time I just got them the other day at the store hopefully you have safe travels ❤ I love your content ❤ Watching from East Tennessee
Always amusing to me to see what gravy Brits think is "thick." Stuffing is called stuffing because (classically) it was stuffed into the bird and roasted. We still call it stuffing, even when we haven't stuffed anything with it. I actually do want to know how the vegetables taste. They were probably really delicious, even though you thought they didn't look that good. Alas. Pro-tip for next time: You can buy pies to take home, so you can eat your fill of the other food. Game-day decision. You're also allowed to come back in the future. You can get all kinds of MC pies in the grocery store! Lemon meringue is the GOAT of pies. Crescendo is a good word for it. Razzleberry hits. But that Chocolate Cream pie looks INCREDIBLE!!! I'd like to remind Andrew that he's the one who refused to eat his vegetables. Who was the five year old, hmm?? haha Thanks for another fun video!
