squid ink pasta wtf | Subscribe for more #motivation ๐Ÿ˜Š๐Ÿ‘

Trying unusual ingredients in food challenges taste expectations and culinary norms. Squid ink is a classic ingredient in some cuisines, valued for its bold flavor and dramatic color, but it can be polarizing for many diners. Understanding how chefs experiment with textures and flavors can help consumers appreciate culinary creativity, even if the choice seems extreme. Restaurants often balance tradition with innovation to attract adventurous eaters while maintaining standard menu options. Knowing your preferences and communicating them clearly ensures a better dining experience and prevents unwelcome surprises.

  1. These remind me of Indiana Jones. Can I have something simple like soup and it turns out to be eyeball soup๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚

  2. What a shit take, tbh. The last two satirical suggestions are literally inedible, whereas the pasta has zero obstacles.

  3. You'd be surprised to think about what we eat normally that could be considered weird by someone who isn't familiar with it. We eat eggs (chicken periods), poison (alcohol, capsaicin, etc), fungus or fermented things (cheese, pickled things, etc) we eat the breastmilk of other animals, all kinds of things an alien might say "wtf" to. Squid ink is not the worst. Testicles, chicken feet, beef tongue, all popular dishes around the world.

  4. Usually the pasta dough is made with squid ink turning it black you hardly taste it lmao. I didn't realize people thought we were making the sauce outta squid ink

  5. Calling your food "carbs" makes you either a pansy-assed, millenial queerbait…Or a Bodybuilder.

I dont think a Bodybuilder is going to whine about squid ink.

  6. As a vegan this is one of many gotchas i need to watch our for. You can colour pasta black with food grade charcoal but some people use squid ink. You have to hope the restaurant or person cooking thought about it

  7. Squid ink has a distinct, mild, and savory "briny" or sea-like flavor, often described as a subtle, clean, and earthy, umami-rich taste rather than being intensely fishy. It provides a slightly salty, oceanic depth to dishes, which can be enhanced with ingredients like lemon, parsley, or olive oil. It is commonly used in pasta, risottos, and sauces to add flavor and a deep black color.
    Key Taste and Culinary Characteristics:
Flavor Profile: Primarily described as umami-rich, briny, and savory, with a subtle, earthy, and clean oceanic taste.
Intensity: It has a relatively delicate, non-overpowering taste that is more about depth than intense fishiness.
Texture: It can add a slightly creamy or silky texture to dishes, such as in "seppie in nero" (squid in its own ink) via Reddit.
Culinary Uses: Often used in pasta, sauces, crackers, and, in some cases, even in unique preparations like vanilla gelato.
Pairings: Pairs well with bright, fresh ingredients like lemon and parsley, as well as with seafood and pork.
It is important to note that while it adds a strong, dark color, the flavor it imparts is often quite subtle.
