Also, if you have trouble with onion tears. You do the first step of cutting off the ends and then cutting it in half pretty quickly. Then you just walk away from the kitchen for 5 minutes allowing the onion micro spray to settle. No more tears.
my mum has an extra compost container that hooks over the top of a cupboard on the kitchen counter where u can just brush things off the counter/chopping board into it and then tip it onto the compost later.
The one time I took cooking lessons, this is how it was taught. You don't want things sliding around so make detaching the cubes from the half the last cut you make on them.
the horizontal "inserts" are the dumbest, thanks for pointing them out. The onyo is naturally separated in that direction already, these inserts don't do anything
Since everyone who cooks has to find their own method of cutting an onion, I have now decided that I will cut onions by smashing them repeatedly in my car door.
One important thing that makes a huge difference is a SHARP, thin blade. Double emphasis on sharp. Listen to the sound of how his knife goes through. If it sounds like it's crunching or tearing than it's not sharp enough.
If your knife is not sharp enough, you'll crush/break the cells instead of slicing through them. That's not only a whole bunch of work, but the reason you cry when cutting onions.
– professional kitchens trashbins are on the top – bowl makes it messier/not always hits to bowl, is in the way of moving – that is not diced. but it is an adequately portioned onion
I, for some reason that is completely based on nothing, also cut the onions in half before cutting both ends. I don't know what it is. It definitely takes a lot longer and often leads to uneven cuts because I'm cutting it half while it's round instead of when I could just cut on one of the flat end whwn doing it the other way, but it feels oddly satisfying to cut it in half first.
this is like a bit version of when josh said "here's how to wash your hands" then instead of washing them with soap for 20 seconds, he rinsed them under water for 20 seconds. i think about that every time i wash my hands now.

The only person who can teach me the correct way to cut an onion is chef jean pierre
And just like that perfectly diced. Proceeds to continue

Those are not cubes, you didnt do the horizontal cut.

If you cut it in half to start with you don't get teary eyed. Leave the ends intact as long as possible.

I don’t know why but I swear it works, leave the root on, chop it up and it doesn’t bother your eyes.
I think it’s something to do with most of the chemicals that irritate your eyes are located near the root.
WRONG. WTF?
Don't cut the root end.
Isn't that supposed to be the main purpose for one of those hidden/under the counter trashcans? 😂

Am I anaphylactic to onions yes did I still watch this whole thing? Also yes 😂❤
You did it wrong. Don’t cut off the hairy end. You get more onion. You cut off the hair end at the end.
Is Josh faded here? 😂
And then what Josh. You have a quarter of a half-scored onion thats awkward af to hold
I'm learning I just have a dull ass knife
I also cut the onion in half before cutting off the ends, you aren’t alone
Peel off all the layers that have started turning into the outside color imo. The discolored parts are a bad texture
wow , how wrong can someone be ……… I would have cut it and chopped it before you took the skin off holy f

this is peak dicing
I used a SlapChop large. Takes seconds.
Attach the bowl to your belt and you won't trip over it
Keep the hairy end on until the end. Helps keep the half as a whole piece. Otherwise 10/10.
Murdoc is the best Onion Cutter.
I’m sorry but he is so damn hot ❤
Josh Pierre shows us how to dice an onyo
I feel seen.
This is what I do! And I have never seen a professional cut onions like I do. I feel absurdly validated in my onion-cutting choices right now.

“Here is the proper way to cut an onion”. 😊
Mere moments later.
“I just hack at it like this”. 😈
I was taught to keep the root so the onion stays together
The bottom keeps the gas in it that makes you tear up or you can chop it quickly
i fully thought this was vigilante 😭
10% How to cut an onion
40% mess on the floor
50% contemplating how to cut an onion properly 🧐
I always cut it in half first. It’s just waaayyy easier idk why it isn’t the standard
“Do we sell that product?” Bowls?
They have bowls you hook on too the drawer we call it our crumb catchers!

If you lwave the root end on, it doesn't fall apart and you can use more onion
so basically what he's saying is invest in a nice sharp $150 knife
so my question is how does he cut the rest. because thats where it falls apart for me. cutting a quarter onion isnt the problem. its what comes after
this is indeed not the optimal way to cut an onion

Step 1: get big bowl for floor scraps
Step 2: get onions
