Eating at an Ex-Michelin Restaurant (Is It Still Worth It?)

I tried eating at an ex-Michelin restaurant inside a castle in Ljubljana, Slovenia — and the real question was simple: is it still worth it after losing the Michelin star?

This restaurant used to hold a Michelin star and is still listed in the Michelin Guide, so I went in with curiosity but no food-snob expectations. I chose the five-course tasting menu with drink pairings and experienced everything from non-alcoholic fermented drinks to fish starters, signature cauliflower, risotto, meat courses, and multiple desserts — all while eating alone inside a medieval castle.

In this video, I give an honest fine dining review from the perspective of a non-fancy person trying a high-end restaurant. I talk about flavors, textures, value for money, atmosphere, service, and whether the experience still feels “Michelin-level” even without the star. No exaggerated reactions, no fake hype — just a real food and travel experience in Slovenia.

The total cost was €155, which honestly surprised me considering the location, the number of courses, and the drink pairings. If you’re traveling to Ljubljana, interested in Michelin Guide restaurants, or curious about whether ex-Michelin restaurants are still worth visiting, this video is for you.

This is part of my Slovenia travel vlog series, where I explore local food, supermarkets, restaurants, and hidden experiences — from everyday meals to fine dining.

Let me know in the comments: would you try an ex-Michelin restaurant? And if you have suggestions for other restaurants (Michelin or not), tell me where I should eat next.
