  1. I work In the kitchen of a retirement home, and it still amazes me how the residents reject anything with a pleasant flavor, and still insist on the most godawful combinations of ingredients that shouldn’t even be eaten in the same day

  2. Me reading the Haunting of Hill House (1959) and the protagonist has- I am not making this up -CORNBREAD STICKS AND COTTAGE CHEESE for lunch at a restaurant. The rest of the food described in the book is normal; I think they have a souffle at one point? But that part had me like, "…what?!"

  3. Fun fact, Americans didn’t really know what to do with bananas when they were first imported on a large scale around this time, so Chiquita created these cook books of a bunch of random banana-related recipes to promote their consumption. Some caught on, but most weee gross and did not. It was very much a “throw stuff at the wall and see what sticks” approach.

  4. So funny…. But it is true….. All these odd creations were indeed a thing back in the day…. So odd… But true!

  5. All i can think about is all the potential food waste, i really hope that you ate everything, even though i know deep down that that isn’t the case :/.

  6. the fact that 80 percent of recipes included encasing something in jello is wild like imagine hearing "spaghetti Os and wieners" expecting a bowl of something n getting a plate of cold spaghetti jello with cold hotdogs like no shi we bigger now we aren't eating like our significant other hates us lol.

  7. My great grandmother used to have these old set of cookbooks (she’s in her 90s now, and was an amazing cook btw), that had all these vintage recipes. I put my phone down for a second but could still hear it, and as soon as I hear “banana and ham hollandaise” I almost threw up in my mouth because the picture of that exact dish was literally on one of the covers lmao

  8. I guess the concept of love ( whether is be self love or love for another) wasn't invented yet…not with food like that.

  9. We all act like our ancestors had "no reason to slap their wives" but serve me hot Dr.Pepper & Tuna jello; lets see if I don't swing instinctively 😂
