Trying Every Restaurant on the NYT 2025 Top 100 List – Chongqing Lao Zao

Chongqing Lao Zao is one of the most popular hot pot spots in the city for a reason. It’s back on the NYT 100 list again this year and I was so excited to return. Still my favorite hot pot in NYC and just as good as I remembered.

📍 Chongqing Lao Zao – Flushing, Queens

  1. That looks delicious but as an Asian American I am personally offended that they charged you for the dipping sauce

  2. I have a feeling theyre toughening up Kaitlyns stomach until she came enough times before they finally allow her to order high spicy broth/tai chi beef

  3. Because meat cooks faster and is instant and usually vegetables take longer, meat is usually cooked first in hotpot! But of course up to you.

And I do like chongqing lao zao since the spice level is actually close to authentic in chongqing (in which everyone there eats at this level of spice lol).

  4. As a card carrying ‘Tendrias con Leche’ (aka even milk is too spicy 😂) I fear I may actually die if I ate here 😅

  5. You should try taro in hotpot! It takes a long time to cook but it ends up super flavorful and the best is when it’s so soft it’s falling apart 😋

  6. is that a joke – who is allowed to order hot? why even have that on the menu? or are they judging by ethnicity? i don't get it
