Beefy Mac & Tomatoes – Southern style comfort food! All that’s missing is cornbread!
Beefy Mac & Tomatoes
2 pounds ground beef
1 cup onion, finely diced
2 cloves garlic, minced (approximately 2 teaspoons)
32 ounce can diced tomatoes, with juice
1/2 cup chili sauce
2 cups water
2 Tablespoons beef base
8 ounce box elbow macaroni
salt & pepper to taste
Brown and chop the hamburger. Drain well. Add the onion and garlic. Cook, stirring frequently, until the onions soften, about 3 – 5 minutes.
Add the diced tomatoes with the juice, chili sauce, water, and beef base. Simmer five minutes.
Add pasta and stir to combine. Cover and cook on medium low just until the pasta is tender, about six minutes. Add salt and pepper to taste.

Eaten with cornbread would be great too.
My Mom made macaroni, and home canned tomatoes with salt and plenty of pepper warmed up good. She then cut up cheese into the bottom of my bowl and poured the steaming mac and tomatoes over the cheese, melting it into gooey goodness. I then stirred it a little and ate it. I love it to this day. Now, though, I use canned whole tomatoes, broken up, and add some tomato juice in it if I have it. It is easy, just a few ingredients, but it's so satisfying!
My mouth is watering. I can not wait to try this.
My mom made this recipe, even with the chili sauce! But she used Worcestershire sauce too, in the browing hamberger😊
Why drain the grease? If you’re using a lean beef that can only add to flavor and satiation resulting and less eaten. Also I would precook the onions in a healthy fat: bacon, tallow, butter or olive oil to soften and gently caramelize, remove add the beef and then at the end add the garlic before returning the onions to the pot, this is my method to boost flavor even though it adds a step. Sorry I know you make these recipes super user friendly and take flack from people who are policing your fat and salt additions not to mention the finger wiping🙄. I prefer better than beef bullion, quite salty so I add additional salt later. I do add some salt to the onions to help them sweat and caramelize. This looks great for home and for church common meal which we have every single week! We are Reformed Baptist and potlucks are real here and we’re in the PNW! I’ll bet a small can or two of V8 would be great to increase the liquid plus flavor! If people are open, Accent is a great way to boost flavor at the end without adding salt. Thanks to you both. I’ll be adding more liquid from the outset with V8 and take to church the next morning after a reheat! Right up my alley!
I would serve with cheddar cheese on top.
Gonna be so good
A great old recipe I grew up with, my children grew up with, and now their children & my great grandchildren are growing up with! 🙂
I made this today thank you very much. It was very good. I’m just so weird about ketchup. I bought the chili sauce and I think next time I’ll use half of that amount. I’m just real weird about it. I don’t know but it was delicious. Thank you very much. I enjoy making your recipes.
This looks so delicious !!!
When i lived out west 20 years , country eating was the greatest.we ate other things of course , but these recipes and the women i met and what i learned from them , ill never forget.i enjoy your videos and foods so very much , thank you
My grandmother cooked this a lot and I loved it!!!! Still do!!
I put brown sugar in mine.
I always love watching your videos. This recipe seems so familiar to the goulash recipe that my family raised me with. Yours is different and I can't wait to try it your way. It just seems quick and easy for busy families. Our family is so angry about how the food production companies are cutting down the sizes. We are paying more but the quantity has been cut down. This is ridiculous!
My mother used to make this when we were kids,it was called slumgullion.
This is basically American chop suey.
If youre from New England you know what I mean. I dont put beef base in mine though.
Yummy, one of my faves, definitely going to make! Thanks guys❤🙏
Yes indeed I am going to add this recipe into this weekend plans. Thank you for sharing.
That looks so yummy! Definitely want to make this recipe! Thanks for sharing!😊❤
This biscuit recipe which is so new, looks wonderful. Come on now. You've got to show more of you trying your grandmother's recipes. She is such a good cooker. I enjoyed you so much. Corey, you did a great job making those biscuits.
Could you substitute the beef base and water with beef stock?
EVERY SINGLE Goulash Dish in the World has TOO MANY Noodles — Reduce the amount of Pasta by 33% and it will be far tastier ..
Taste it already!!! 🤣😋
THANK YOU!! I ATE THIS GROWING UP, MYSELF! COULD EAT THE WHOLE POT BY MYSELF, TOO! 😂
This is the kind of dish my mom made for years. I learned from her how to make a complete meal like this in one pot. I've been doing it for many years.
I like your idea of using ketchup in place of the chili sauce. I'm a ketchup lover from way back.
Make it with rotel with the chilis oh yum! It adds an extra kick😋
