  1. The farmers almanac was spot on with weather forecast for my corner of the world this winter . And my favorite chicken n dumpling recipe is from the 2000 farmers almanac.

  2. Hey Kent,
    Great recipe, as always.
I always use my biscuit recipe for dumplings. Looks like yours has a little less fat and a little more buttermilk. I’ll try it and see how we like it.
    Love your videos!

  3. Hey Kent, has Shannon ever made you stop filming so she could eat what you've cooked. Great video as always y'all. 👍👍👍👍👍🍻🍻

  6. my granny used to make chicken and dumplings with drop dumplings and those are my favorite. she grew up in the depression (born in 1924) and this was a go to delicacy for them.

  7. Nothing better than chicken and dumplings and yes squirrel dumplings my mama could make this stretch to fit the needs of the often extra buddies that showed up with me to get some good cooking . My father inlaw found out I could make them and for his last year on this earth with cancer he ask me to make them often and English pea dumplings sure was a pleasure to fix something that really enjoyed.
God bless y’all and pet those puppies for me

  8. ever make a type of dumpling called "egg drop dumplings"? mom never wrote it down but i remember flour eggs and butter milk.

  9. Mrs Lovell made homemade dumplings on the kitchen table. From scratch. Went out the back door and got a chicken. Plucked it and dressed it out on same table. Best chicken and dumplings, ever.

  10. I've been to restaurants that serve that type of chicken gravy over broad thick egg noodles and call it "chicken and dumplings". My always put drop biscuits on top of hers, but didn’t use cream in it.

  11. I do not know my wife’s whole recipe, I just know that her chicken and dumplings are the star of any meal. She does use a whole chicken. I know this because she assigns me the task of deboning the chicken. While I’m doing the chicken she does the dumplings. The dough rolled ought on the table between a half to three quarter an inch, then cut into approximately two inch squares. No milk or cream just the chicken broth the dough is dropped into along with the deboned chicken. When done served over mashed potatoes or whatever else, or even by itself is a real treat. It is a centerpiece dish of all our holiday meals.

  12. 💛…the best fishin' days and what's happenin' in the night skies and this day in history…love my almy…salute to them too…

  16. Apparently The Farmer’s Almanac is ending, however the original “Old Farmer’s Almanac” (the one we associate the iconic light yellow cover with) will still be published!

  17. My mom made bisquick dumplings. They were always delicious! But that's all I knew till I joined the army and had them down in Georgia and they were flat. Either way, its one of my favorites! Thank you for sharing.

  18. My great grandmother made the best chicken and dumplings I have ever had. I can't tell you what she did or how she made them, but MAN, they were SO good! I was a kid and looked forward to going to see Mimi because she made them special for us.

  19. Once again, Majie steals the show, not only as a culinary assistant, but also from a fashion perspective.

When I make chicken & dumplings, I usually roast a whole chicken, eat some and use the leftovers for chicken & dumplings. I use drop biscuit recipes for the dumplings.

  20. I'm 72 this year and as far back as I can remember we had a Farmers Almanac in the house and when I started my family I have had one each year in my house I plant my garden by it and just enjoy reading it

  21. This is one of the best cowboy kent rollins videos! Integrating the farmers almanac piqued my interest! The recipe looked amazing! I need to follow this recipe out on the range! The rain helped the video! If it ain't raining, it ain't training!

  22. Man I love cooking. Just tonight me and my best friend make carne guisada, beans, rice, chile toreador and had fresh griddles tortillas and chimichurri plus grilled squash and zucchini

  23. I'm sad that The Farmers Almanac is ending. My parents always had a copy every year and even us kids knew a lot of what it said each year, especially the weather part.
I sometimes do put carrots and celery in my chicken and dumplings. I'll also admit I've used canned chicken sometimes. I'd rather not if I have a choice though. Sometimes money was tight though and canned chicken was cheaper, and chicken and dumplings seemed like a good way to use it sometimes. My grandma would put the whole pieces of chicken in her chicken and dumplings. Back the wings was cheap. Meat counter practically gave them away so a lot of times she used whole wings. She'd boil them in the pot then when they was done she drop in her dumplings that I think was her drop biscuit recipe. She didn't just make a savory dumpling though. Sometimes she made sweet fruit dumplings. She especially would make wild gooseberry dumplings. She stew the fruit or berries then she'd scoop up some drop biscuit dough dumplings in. Oh her fruit dumplings was so good.

  24. I want to thank you for the inspiration you provide for cast iron outdoor cooking. I’m not cooking outdoors yet, but last night I had a 5 quart Dutch oven in my oven with two red sockeye salmon filets and stir fry vegetables in it, and I followed that with a chuck roast in my pre-WWII #8 Dutch oven that I call “Cannonball” because it is so heavy. The roast was surrounded with onions, garlic, carrots, and sweet potato. I swear it did take a few hours, it did! I’ll be eating for a few days now, I will…
