Forgotten Restaurants From 1970s Britain, We Want Back!

There was a time in this country when eating out actually meant something. The Wimpy Bar where a waitress came to your table. Berni Inn with its prawn cocktail, steak, and Black Forest gateau. Little Chef on the A-road halfway to your holiday. The Golden Egg with its egg-shaped menus. They were part of growing up in 1970s Britain. Most of them are gone now. Some were taken over. Some just couldn’t keep up. But if you ate at any of these in the seventies, you’ll remember exactly what they felt like.

  1. Toby Carveryโ€™s are still going.
There are 158 Toby Carvery Restaurants in the UK, and one of those restaurants is in Chadderton, near Oldham.
So I donโ€™t know why Toby Carvery is on this list.

  2. Very Happy to report that there is still a Wimpy near me, and my favorite is still the 'Bender in a bun' ๐Ÿ˜‚ Thougg, sadly now the name has changed to 'Bendy' to be more pc, probably!! ๐Ÿ”๐ŸŸ

  4. nope, i like this channel but nope little chef have always been crap and a rip off, happy eater the good one that sadly went out of business and crappy little chef stuck around.

  5. that photo of the beefeater is the enfield one on the A10 by david loiyd gym, its still there, its now a tobey cravery.

  6. Wimpy thankfully still exists down Southsea Portsmouth and their chicken wraps are delicious. Whilst it's not fully table service as you go to the counter to order, everything is made to order no sitting around under a heat lamp and then brought to you on trays etc
