Forgotten Restaurants From 1970s Britain, We Want Back!
There was a time in this country when eating out actually meant something. The Wimpy Bar where a waitress came to your table. Berni Inn with its prawn cocktail, steak, and Black Forest gateau. Little Chef on the A-road halfway to your holiday. The Golden Egg with its egg-shaped menus. They were part of growing up in 1970s Britain. Most of them are gone now. Some were taken over. Some just couldn’t keep up. But if you ate at any of these in the seventies, you’ll remember exactly what they felt like.

wimpy, little chef, happy eater, greasy spoon type cafe and beef eater are the ones i remember
These make me smile so much! So many memories unlocked ๐
Wimpy was as good as it gets. Toby carvery were terrific. Above all the pull in cafe.
Much better than all the Hal al shit you get nowโฆ
Wimpy are still around, but not as good as McDonalds. Little Chef used to do a fantastic Liver and Bacon Fry up – YUM
I preferred Wimpy to McDonalds.
Berni Inn. Great food.
Toby Carveryโs are still going.
There are 158 Toby Carvery Restaurants in the UK, and one of those restaurants is in Chadderton, near Oldham.
So I donโt know why Toby Carvery is on this list.
Very Happy to report that there is still a Wimpy near me, and my favorite is still the 'Bender in a bun' ๐ Thougg, sadly now the name has changed to 'Bendy' to be more pc, probably!! ๐๐
brilliant, every Ai child has grubby hands ๐ฎyup, that's how i remember my days growing up. ๐germs made you stronger. ๐คจ๐คจ
the greasy spoon, memories, there needs to be more of them today, an honest plate full and good value. ๐๐๐๐ and you didn't feel like you'd just be financially shafted !! ๐๐
went to a "four square" 10 years back, different names but all similar, dining out without braking the bank. โบโบ
personally, if i'm out n about, hungry n miles from home, and i see McDonalds, i'm in there, good value, and you know what your getting. ๐๐๐๐
… Can we bring the prices back, their greed has gone parabolic since 2020
nope, i like this channel but nope little chef have always been crap and a rip off, happy eater the good one that sadly went out of business and crappy little chef stuck around.
that photo of the beefeater is the enfield one on the A10 by david loiyd gym, its still there, its now a tobey cravery.
Wimpy thankfully still exists down Southsea Portsmouth and their chicken wraps are delicious. Whilst it's not fully table service as you go to the counter to order, everything is made to order no sitting around under a heat lamp and then brought to you on trays etc
Did my Hospitality Management Training with Berni Inns, great times.
