In a city of $30 ramen, this SF corner store restaurant refuses to raise prices

Located at Polk and Sacramento since 2015, Common Sage has attracted a flock of neighborhood regulars with some of the city’s most affordable Japanese and Korean food.

“I’m not really making a lot of money,” owner Natasha Hong says. “Actually, we’re kind of tight right now. I’m not even paying myself to work. But meeting new people and reconnecting with customers — it’s living life. Money is not so important.”

  1. $16 is cheap? This is when you know everything else is too damned expensive.

I can make this at home for $6 cause the ramen is just packaged ramen.

  2. $16 for a bowl? Hell, it is like $8 around the corner from my home. And still makes a profit to stay in business. Houston, in case you were thinking where.

  3. $16 is average price of ramen in SF with minimal toppings though. I expect a "cheap" ramen in such a casual sitting environment to be at $14/bowl max before tax and tips.
