Vacuum the carpet/ rug in 6 directions before using a rug cleaner to get as much of the dust and pet hair out of it
Note to self: Never buy a wool rug. LOL

Hair clippers w/a gaurd on could shave the numbs off the carpet.
I'm afraid the cats will eventually destroy that rug, because they might be a little mature to retrain. 😢

I've used a razor to de-pill sweaters, and furniture – – maybe that would work on your carpet.

Score that you found the right table for your DR. Curious how much it was? I would not be excited over stripping it with all the round legs, details and all the chairs too – too much work for me – but enjoyed watching it get done. Nice to see another room in your house.
