Houston’s Hidden Gem for Authentic Mexican Breakfast (Houston Chronicle Top 100 Restaurants)

One of Houston’s most iconic Mexican breakfast spots 🇲🇽

After getting back from Mexico City, I needed a proper Mexican breakfast and Puebla’s delivered. Opened in 2001 as a small bakery, it’s now a neighborhood gem in the Heights known for homestyle Puebla-style cooking, fresh tortillas, and consistent, affordable food.

The chilaquiles divorciados (half green, half red) were exactly how you want them—bright, tangy, and balanced with that perfect egg yolk. And the mole poblano was the standout—rich, smooth, and deeply layered, paired with rice, beans, and fresh tortillas.

Simple, traditional food done at a really high level.
