What’s it like eating at a Texas highway buffet?
In this video we’re eating at Sam’s Original Restaurant, a Texas buffet institution that’s all you can eat of the most classic American food for $19.49.
To make things more fun I decided to try everything on the menu for today and rate all of them to find out which food is the best to eat.

Wow I absolutely cannot believe I am this early to one of your videos 😊 and you just posted it 3 minutes ago. Lol that never usually happens. I have to say I have been a loyal follower of yours Mark for many many years now and I love all of your not only amazing but informative content. This one isn’t one of my favorite videos you have made and kind of leads me to believe that you are running out of ideas after all these years which I can completely understand because you have traveled all over the world and to more countries then I can remember so that ultimately can happen. I just can’t believe your reduced to a roadside all you can eat buffet in nowhere Texas off the I 45. Sorry but to me this is the everyday mundane food that you come to expect in the US. I don’t need to see what you rate their bread, meatloaf shaped like a ball, the corn that naturally comes from a can that we all know what it tastes like or their soup salad bar that you called impressive which has two soups which are vegetable and you said Mexican which I have tried both and they are far from impressive and 6 types of dressing meh this is boring and definitely not impressive in anyway. I’m sorry to sound negative but I just didn’t expect this from you. If you want to do this type of content I work at a gas station in NC and we sell all kinds of food and would love for you to come and do a show on it? I mean hey why not we have good off the interstate food too. I have seen a million videos from people doing the big all you can eat buffets but never an off the interstate gas station food tour lol. If you’re interested please let me know we would absolutely LOVE to have you and your family stop in for some good company and good “gas station” food. Lots of love and support as always no matter what.

I’d probably do a plate of 3-4 chicken fried steaks and mashed potatoes, then a plate of several fried catfish (and more mashed potatoes?), then whatever else I felt I had room for (incl. maybe 1 piece of BBQ beef).
The worst food I’ve ever seen you eat. Will be sure to never go there.

Mark, I feel you on the “itis”—that food coma after a buffet hits hard. Being born and raised in Texas, I’ve never seen a buffet serve a whole loaf of bread like that. I’d much rather have buttery rolls and cornbread at a Southern buffet. The bread and desserts didn’t look too impressive to me, but looks can be deceiving. The meatloaf, fried catfish, and fried chicken all looked delicious, so I’m not surprised they received a high rating. I’ve never heard of Sam’s Restaurant, I may check it out this summer.
They just give you plenty of bread and butter so you fill up on that instead of taking from the cooked dishes that actually cost them a pretty penny.

Buffets to me are always a disappointment,always average but never wow. I would rather pay for a great meal then quantity over quality
That Risoto is a broccoli rice and chees casarole. You were definitely eating the meatloaf. I would suggest the Clear Green Pepper suace too. Head back to Austin and eat at Frankilins BBQ. If you want Iconic Texas that's where it's at. I would also look for a Buddy's Burger. Get the spicy double. Thanks for coming to my neck of the woods. I was actually a little nervous when you startedd scoring. But we have great food all around the state. I hope you and the team enjoyed your time here!
