  1. I've eaten sugar snap peas my whole life and never removed the stems? I guess it's because I never cooked them. I didn't know they could be cooked..

  2. Peeling the asparagus is a must! Removes the fibrous outer layer, so much more pleasant to eat.

  3. I was talking about this the other day. That fallow restaurant in the UK was talking about trimming the little folds on asparagus and I'm just like "grab a peeler and pull a thin layer of the skin off." You get such a nicer product this way, at least to me

Edit: and you fried shredded leeks?? Did we work line together? Holy shit lol

  4. An asparagus steamer holds the spears upright so the firmer ends are in the boiling water and the tender tips only steam. You can adjust the amount of water you use depending on how much of the stems you think needs the boil. It does seem like a one-function piece of equipment but if you cook asparagus more than a couple of times a year I'd say it was worth it.

  5. Today I learned that apparently not all of the world peels their asparagus. Germans are obsessed with white asparagus and as the season is about to start, the machines that peel it for you have started entering the supermarkets again.

  6. Hmmm I'm not huge on asparagus, maybe I'll give that method a try and see if I like it better 👍 I've never heard of that version

  7. This looks delicious. It’s autumn here so I’m looking at pumpkins, apples, pears and leek and potato soup. I do have some pork to roast as well. What I am most looking forward to is old fashioned baked rice pudding with caramelised pears.
