    1990-2000 കാലഘട്ടത്തിൽ കൊല്ലത്തുള്ള ജോൺ ചാണ്ടി(അനിയൻ)എന്നൊരു വ്യക്തി കൊല്ലം ബീച്ചിൽ ഒരു റസ്റ്റോറന്റ് നടത്തി അവിടെ ഫ്രോസൺ കട്ലറ്റ് മുതലായവ (മാമാസ് എന്നോ മറ്റോ ആയിരുന്നു പേരെന്ന് തോന്നുന്നു)ഉണ്ടാക്കി വിറ്റിരുന്നു. കുറച്ചു നാളുകൾക്ക് ശേഷം കറികൾക്ക് ഉള്ള അരപ്പുകൾ (മസാല) എറണാകുളം ബേസ്ഡ് തുടങ്ങി. അദ്ദേഹത്തിന്റെ കൂടെ സഹായിയായ ഒരു വ്യക്തി ആയതിന്‍റെ റെസിപ്പികൾ എല്ലാം ജോൺ ചാണ്ടിയുടെ അമേരിക്കയിൽ വച്ചുള്ള ദൗർഭാഗ്യകരമായ മരണത്തെ തുടർന്ന് കടത്തുകയും ചെയ്തു. ജോൺ ചാണ്ടി കൊല്ലം റെയിൽവേ സ്റ്റേഷന് സമീപം ചർച്ച് ഓഫ് ക്രൈസ്റ്റ് എന്ന സഭയുടെ പാസ്റ്റർ ആയി പ്രവർത്തിക്കുകയും അന്നത്തെ റേഡിയോ സിലോൺ വഴി മലയാളത്തിൽ ദിനംപ്രതി സുവിശേഷം മധുരമായ ഗാനങ്ങളോട് കൂടി അവതരിപ്പിച്ചിരുന്നു. കൊല്ലം തേവള്ളി പാലത്തിന് സമീപം ആയിരുന്നു അദ്ദേഹം താമസിച്ചിരുന്നത്. കൊല്ലത്തുള്ള പഴമക്കാർ ഇക്കാര്യം ഓർത്തിരിക്കാൻ സാധ്യത ഉണ്ട്.
