Beignets are part of French and Caribbean cuisines as well. Usually sweet but they can be savoury. In metropolitan France we call them bugnes or merveilles, we eat them for Mardi Gras. The dough is either plain and covered in powdery sugar, or flavoured with orange blossom extract (which is incredible 😍). I really recommend trying out bugnes or beignets if you ever get the chance !
(Mind you, if you go to France and ask for a beignet, it's usually filled with jam or chocolate, whereas bugnes are closer to what's shown in the video)
