You're probably eating some kind of mustard greens… similar taste to fake wasabi in a tube. That's the peppery taste. Also the pungent herb is diep ca… fish mint. Took me over 30 years to like it lol.

I love that fish herb, I could eat any greens, and she's not eating the herbs, that's why it's bland
There’s different Banh khots. I like the plump ones that are soft and has coconut milk on them. The ones you’re eating looks like crap. And the fish sauce HAS to be on the sour savory side to make it taste even better.

That overwhelming herb that you ate was fish mint leaves. I cannot eat that fishy herb and would not even wash them with other herbs and vegetables bc its odor will rub on to them. It’s fishier than fish to those of us that can’t eat them and I love eating fish. I’m surprised you didn’t spit it out bc that’s what I would’ve done 😂. Thank you both for this video! Vung Tau was my birth place and I had only visited VN and Vung Tau once 30 yrs ago. My family left VN when I was 3. Maybe one day I’ll revisit VN and VT again🥹.
