In India, “Five Spice Powder” usually refers to the Chinese-style blend made of star anise, cloves, Chinese cinnamon, Sichuan pepper, and fennel seeds.

ekta kacha kachi aache … fried chicken with red sichuan peppers is something which probably is what was reimagined for this or a mix between this and kung pao chicken. Five spice powder is star anise and some other spices, most prominent being start anise

Kolkata chinese is way different from what they call Indian chinese served in the rest of India. If you try the chinese food in other Indian cities, it just won't hit THAT satisfying spot like it does in Kolkata. FACT.

* Fennel seeds – 2 tsp (4 g)
* Cassia cinnamon – 1 small stick (3 g)
* Cloves – 4 to 5 cloves (1 g)
* Sichuan peppercorns – 1 tsp (2 g)
Kolkatai onek somoy peppercorn use hoi, due to non availability of sichuan peppercorns

বিবেকানন্দ কেবিন আমারো ছোটবেলার প্রিয় দোকান। বছর ২৫ /৩০ আগে যখন ওখানে হামেশাই যেতাম তখন ওখানে একজন কর্মচারী যিনি সার্ভ করতেন তাঁকে দেখে সমসাময়িক বন্ড সিনেমার Jaws নামে একজন ভিলেনের কথা মনে পড়তো। আপনিও নিশ্চই তাঁকে দেখেছেন। ভালো লাগলো জেনে যে ওটা আপনার প্রিয় দোকানের মধ্যে একটা। আর Jimmy 's Kitchen এবং Bejing এর কথা কি বলবো, আমিও আপনার সঙ্গে পুরোপুরি একমত। Jimmy 's Kitchen এর প্যারালাল এখনো আমি খুঁজে পাইনি। বর্তমানে গড়িয়াহাটে Chinatown নামে দোতালায় একটা রেস্টুরেন্টে, যেটা বহু বছর আগে নিরালা রেস্টুরেন্ট ছিল, সেখানকার একটা ডিশ আছে "Mixed gravy Chowmin" নামে, যাতে গ্রাভিটা আগে থেকে মিক্স করেই সার্ভ করা হয় সেটা আমার ভালো লাগে। পারলে একবার ট্রাই করে দেখবেন।
