I’m in London today and I’m at Kawan which is owned by the famous comedian and YouTuber Uncle Roger. Is it better or worse than his nemesis Jamie Oliver’s restaurant?

  1. Hello everyone, hope you've all had a smashing weekend. Gary won't be on the comments this week as he's taking a bit of a break but he will be back on them next week. If you see your comment is hearted or replied to, that will be from me this week and I will mark it with a C at the end.

Looking forward to engaging with you all!

  2. You were so nice to offer the couple done if your happy ending. That man was rude to take the second piece of your dessert πŸ˜–

  3. Hi Malaysian here. The village fried rice or nasi goreng kampung in the Malay language is the kind of fried rice our grandmothers made in the villages and yes, very spicy! Uncle Roger's version looks authentic, must try on my next visit to London

  4. Im just glad the folks that sat down with dint give you a tongue lashing, only the happy ending. Good to see a "celeb" endeavor not just be a promotional stunt.

  5. Hi Mr Cameraman, Although I've thanked your dad a few times for such excellent reviews I am pleased that I can thank you directly for the time and effort you put into making and editing these videos. I am also pleased that your dad is taking time out for a wel deserved rest especially after seeing the video about the abuse that he's had; simply unbelieveable and totally unjustified. Keep up the great work, and I must say that you are a lucky guy to have a dad like Gary! Sending you best wishes.

  6. When you see Gary giving away his dessert you realise nice humanity looks like! Good job mate nice one no airs and graces happy to talk to anyone.

  7. Ate there with my partner on Day 3 of opening, nice vibe. Had the Rice (great) and Golden Parcels (mediocre), happy ending Blue Milo (not worth it) and a beer + cider.
Came to Β£72 which is on the high side, making it 20% cheaper is more realistic to maintain top reputation against the neighbouring restaurants.

  8. That is most definitely my kind of food, full of flavour, beautifully cooked and presented, spicy, very appealing indeed, thanks and very best wishes to Gary, his dear Mum and you cameraman ❀

  9. The only way you know if it has a future is if Malaysians go there. Looks a bit frou frou versions of Malaysian food but if the taste is good, and the price manageable, should do OK. Prefer the real stuff here in KL though. Some nice touches – milo is nostalgic for any middle aged and older malaysian. Poured into them as cheap and nourishing, sprinkled on bread as a snack ( along with hundreds and thousands ). The milo vans are still outside every school sports day – ice cold and free.

  10. Food looked great but have to say places like this is just robbery over Β£15 for a few wings ? You get whole packet 10 wings from Asda for just over Β£2 what do they do just grill them couple we spices terribl prices

  11. No Worries , Dad needs a break . You do a great job with the camera. Your dad is a great guy. Uncle Roger's is good food. All the best to you bothπŸ‘πŸ‘ Cheers !!🍺🍺 Jim and Harriet

  12. Is all Maylasian food so spicy? It didn't seem there was a heat option with these dishes. It all looked great, though. Anything red scares me. It usually indicates πŸ”₯ HOT! Free BREAD AROUND TO WIPE THE INSIDE OF YOUR MOUTH OUT FROM THE OIL CLINGING TO YOUR SKIN AND TASTE BUDS? It may be authentic, but there are a ton of gringos who patronize the restaurant who can't take the chili factor. It might be nice to be able to choose the spice level. It does alter the flavor of the dish though, and it doesn't taste as good, I've noticed. However, if I can't eat it, what's the point? 😒 Do people feed their five year old the spicy meals? Perhaps Maylasian families start their families with spicy dishes off the bat? I don't know. It looked great though. I did spy the chili's in the dishes. BEWARE. πŸ˜‚β€

  13. I didn't know his restaurant had opened yet I was looking forward to seeing what Nephew Gary thought of his food.

  14. It isn't a standard restaurant it's a novelty, add to that the area and what the rent and overheads would be, that for me explains the prices.
I see a fair amount of criticism for Nigel/Uncle Roger but I can't say if I was in his position I wouldn't take advantage of it and use my brand to get some easy money honestly.

  15. Hey! Don't forget my spice tips! The more you eat, the more robust your tolerance becomes but spicey + heat amplifies the spiciness so the cheat code is to let it cool down and then dive in. You can also use some medium heat sauces at home and use them on regular foods that you normally eat. You'll conquer this! πŸ˜€

  16. You gotta eat the ala carte dishes with white rice Gaz. It'll help with the spice and let you taste everything.

  17. Wow that food looks delicious 🀀 and you are so kind sharing you’re food with someone else. Absolutely love you Gary && your channel! I really enjoy watching you. β™₯️

  18. Kawan pronounced ka-wan means friend. Rumah wings means house wings πŸ™πŸ™ In Indonesia you can buy Nasi Goreng ( Fried Rice) for a pound cooked by a Nenek ( Grandmother) that will taste every bit as good as that. πŸ˜‚

  19. It took me a bit before I clicked on this video. I just couldn't stand it if it turned out that Uncle Roger's restaurant didn't deliver. I'm thrilled that he came through. Nigel really is a smart businessman as well as a great comedian. I still remember when I saw one of his videos for the first time. I didn't realize he was a comedian and was appalled at how rude he was. But I'm a Virgo and therefore don't really have a sense of humor. I'm so glad to see that he delivered on a restaurant after all his brutal reviews.

  20. G'day Mr C and good luck dealing with all the comments.
Malaysia is a fantastic mix of Malay, Chinese and Indian cultures, reflected among other things, in the food.
It also has trains, elephants, beer and cricket. Oh, I nearly forgot, good quality rubber goods.

    Cheers from Bali.

  21. Had to laugh at the "Happy Ending." Years ago there was a fun pizza place in the Ballard neighborhood of Seattle. The building was in an old brothel from the late 1800s. They leaned hard into that history. The female servers had uniforms that looked like slips. And the dessert was called the Orgasm. It was a warm chocolate chip cookie with ice cream. The server comes and sits on your table after your meal and asks if you want the Orgasm. Well, how could we refuse that? We didn't.

  22. As usual Garfield the prices scare me but Uncle Roger is one of my Favourites and I think even with my stingenist I would send it on your Recommendation if witch is highly unlikely a branch was opened in Perth Australia.
They even open a branch on the shore one of food hubs in Edinburgh and the shore is in Sunny Leith πŸ˜‚

  24. a vegan and indian friendly menu, little for regular natives of the country which can get better menus from their nearby local intergrated communities.
I suspect Unc Rogerering himself is more a youtube short and food reaction celebrity to get famous.
no doubt he had some old place which is where? not bothered to enquire, turned up on YT shorts before as a talking head with accent commenting on any food post.

looking and guessing this is some corporate franchise of his name with endorsed recipes by him for a fee, but that is by some uneducated guess from this.
appreciate any info if i am wrong, rarely occurs

  25. Do not be embarrassed by the happy ending Gary. Not one person on planet earth dislikes a good happy ending regardless of the context.

  26. Great to see the review, but my goodness that looked hot – Gary was turning red.

  27. Don't worry Gary. Even in Malaysia where Uncle Rogers is from, we think his fried rice is shite and overpriced as well.

  28. I found this review well portioned, with just the right amount of insight, and dialog that brought all the flavors together in a symphony of opinion and explanation. The editing was well done, just the way I like editing. This outro was balanced and fair. Seriously, I think for the price, I would give it an 8.5, and would encourage new viewers to give Gary a go, and subscribe.

  29. I’m Malaysian πŸ‡²πŸ‡Ύ. Our food is as the kids say flavour-maxing. Malaysian food is all about bold, strong flavours. Hope his restaurant did it justice

  30. Hah! Uncle Roger has literally translated the name of the fried rice from the original Malay name, Nasi Goreng Kampung. It looks spot on and I would not pass it up. The curry looks good as we would have it over here. The wings would have been a bit different here. Marinated with tumeric powder and salt and pepper, and deep fried. What you have there is ayam bakar. I am happy you enjoyed the meal. The blue colour of the dumpling comes from a flower scientifically call the Clitoria Ternata after its appearance. Ahem! Do check out photos of the flower itself……….Ha ha!

  31. I can do chicken fried rice for a family of 4 for 2.41 in the Philippines πŸ˜‚
