Japan’s US$3 Breakfast 🇯🇵 | A Typical Morning Meal Locals Actually Eat

Hi everyone, it’s Asuka 🌞

In this video, I went to eat a typical cheap breakfast in Japan!

We visited Matsuya / Matsunoya, a casual Japanese chain restaurant where you can enjoy warm, filling meals at a very affordable price.

Matsuya is mainly known for gyudon, a Japanese beef bowl.
Matsunoya is mainly known for tonkatsu and fried cutlet meals.

※Some locations have both Matsuya and Matsunoya together in one store, but not all of them do.
So if you want to visit, please check carefully on Google Maps before you go.

Many people ask, “Is Japan really cheap?”
As someone living in Japan, I do feel that food here can be surprisingly affordable, especially compared to many countries I have traveled to.

Of course, Japan also has problems, like rising prices, a weak yen, and salaries not increasing enough.
But when it comes to casual meals, I often feel amazed that we can still get warm, tasty food for such a low price.

This time, we had two breakfast sets for ¥950 in total — about US$6.
That means one breakfast was about US$3.

I hope you enjoy this small piece of real daily life in Japan.
If you are planning to travel to Japan, I hope you try gyudon, tonkatsu, or a local breakfast set like this.

Thank you for watching!!!

  1. Sometimes it still amazes me that you're younger than me Asuka. I mean, your life's more put together than mine 😂

  5. muy instructivo. Creo que ahora tengo hambre. En España🇪🇸, mayo es el fin de primavera aunque no se siente como verano aun.

  6. Can you go to the gym after such a complete meal? I'd do gym first and meal afterwards. Anyway, great video!
