The V&A Waterfront’s Hidden Fine Dining Spot | Coy
Coy is owned by Ryan Cole, this year’s Eat Out Chef of Chefs winner – voted for by South Africa’s top chefs. Joint executive chefs Geoffrey Abrahams and Teenola Govender(G&T) are leading the kitchen at one of Cape Town’s most talked-about new fine dining restaurants, tucked inside the V&A Waterfront.
We visited Coy to find out why fine dining restaurants are increasingly opening at major tourist destinations, and what it’s actually like to eat there.
We worked through the new Winter Edit menu, including:
* Aish baladi with fynbos za’atar
* Charred cabbage with chimichurri
* Seared tuna with Malay-inspired chutney and Foxenburg crottin
* Ox tongue croquette (yikes)
* Beef fat roast potatoes with amasi crème fraîche
* G’s fried chicken with habanero hot honey and blue cheese
* Burnt banana crème with milk stout malt
Russel also unpacks the economics behind destination fine dining – from tourist foot traffic and international exposure to the realities of running a restaurant on tight 8-12% margins.
