I hope you take your leftovers home. I love leftovers. đźđźđź Love watching you from southern Indiana.
I do not like lumps in my mashed potatoes either. lol I live in Ontario, Canada.
Mashed potatoes do NOT have to have lumps in the US. I grew up eating homemade mashed potatoes weekly and they NEVER had lumps in them! That is NOT a US thing. Itâs an individual thing!
Yeah, squash casserole is common in the south. Maybe not as common as fried squash. You should be able to get the yellow squash in California, to try and make both at home. Both are awesome when done right and still good when done poorly. Yellow squash tastes a little like corn, so that was likely what you tasted in the casserole. Although, it isn't out of the question that they also put corn in the casserole along with the yellow squash.
Michael is cramping your style, white dude.
My squash casserole is from the Baton Rouge Junior League cookbook, River Road Recipes. It has a pound of bacon with drippings and cheddar cheese.
I love old school cafeterias.. They are the best..
I'm an Atlantan. Wish I could have met you here or Mary Mac's. 2 of my favorites. I lived in London for 2 years, and your food was a shock for me…especially beans on toast for breakfast. đ€Ł
I love that he said "Sqaursh casserole" like a true southerner
If you want good meatloaf, buy some Kinder's Meat Loaf spice mix packets from any Walmart and take it home with you. It makes the best meatloaf in my opinion.
Nicola's choices were better. Meatloaf is one of my favorites. Catfish tastes nasty to me. It's my least favorite fish.
I cant help not thinking of Chris Farley as sloppy Joe lunch lady
It looks wonderful, but it is important to note that most of these cafeterias are not authentic deep south food. They source their food from corporate food companies like Sysco. Most of it is frozen soy based, chemical, presevative and soybean oil laden processed, industrial, mass produced foods. Real southern food is from scratch with pure fresh ingredients.
I can remember cafeterias we had one in my town which was 4 miles from Boston. It was always so busy and the food great and then it was gone . I wish they would make a comeback. Both your dinners looked amazing . I too like a smooth mashed potatoe over lumpy. Thatâs the thing about America we all have different versions of the same foods and also foods from where ever our families come from. My family comes from Italy so we ate mostly Italian food and what we called American food not as much but loved it! Two of my favorites were a roast beef dinner with gravy and mashed potatoes and vegetables and the other was a boiled dinner with ham cabbage carrots potatoes. Itâs so wonderful youâre trying all the foods of America and seeing all the variations there are. Canât wait to see if you hit the southern coast of Maine and New England where I live. I think youâll like it. Have a great timeđđđđ
Squash casserole is very Southern and found at most family gatherings and Sunday potlucks.
you guys just casually tossed out the secret to successful travel – always ask the locals. a lot of folks like myself that have had classical training in cuisine rarely eat Fine Dining (haute cuisine). it's the comfort foods & ethnic specialities we go to – and if they have a bar…hello Monday (most chefs day off)
Everything looked really good!!
Dessert before dinner? Yes so you get full before you arrive at the âgood stuffâ the proteins that is.
I donât really like lumps either, but it isnât a total deal breaker if there are some. But I agree – smooth is best!!!!
I miss Lubyâs
For $60 USD, I am sorry that you got ripped off. Whereâs the beef? Whereâs the chicken, whereâs the drinks?. Looks like a bunch of mass produced starches.
Y'all are adorable!!! Glad you're having such a good time eating your way around! <3 You were in my city a few days ago (to the viewer :P) eating french fries on a sandwich! <3 Glad ATL is treating y'all right! <3 Man, y'all have me craving a trip South!!! I love those tea room/cafeteria style yummy places! <3
The Magnolia Room bought their equipment from an old school cafeteria. I think it was S&S? They honor the tradition, but isnât one of the places we grew up going to. Anyway, there are still some old ones around like Morrisonâs and Piccadillyâs. Not sure food is as good as The Magnolia Room.
One thing many many people ask. How does the US supply sooo much meat for millions of people. Theye are not enough anymals. Is most lab grown meat? Synth or cloned???
Nicola everybodyâs entitled to choose their favorite kind of potato even mashed potato. Now donât give me wrong. I do enjoy a mashed potato. They are nice very smooth and silky tasting but unfortunately, I like the ones that have the little chunks in them and still have skins on them, but you can like whatever you like, you have a right to have your own opinion and anybody that says differently needs to stick it in their ear. I could say that have a reason if you didnât try them or turned your nose up at them, but you donât you try everything even tomatoes. So you just go girl ! Love you channel enjoy it tremendously.
Usually in America when you have cafeteria food it's a little bit less tasty. But that food looked pretty good.
When I make mashed potatoes I usually leave the skin on.
Looks like Matthews Cafeteria wins over again
I love you guys, i can't get enough
Anyone who has ever watched their videos is not surprised that she got BREAD pudding for dessert! Lol. They are too damn cute.
I have to say… for my personal tastes, itâs crazy to me that there isnât a single portion of green beans on either tray. Meatloaf, mash potatoes and green beans creates a perfect bite to me! (GA born and raised).
Oh, for Pete sake, try the vegetable first before it gets cold! We all know what mashed potatoes taste like, and you can eat bread even when itâs lukewarm. But veggies taste best hot.
Iâve been waiting many episodes for you to try broccoli or squash casserole, you get it and then you wait till it turns cold to taste it, cause you too busy eating cornbread and mashed potatoes would you eat on every episode.
No dear, probably no corn. Southern squash casserole is made with summer squash, onion, egg, and cheese and then you can add breadcrumbs on top or Ritz crackers
You did get on this one.
Oh my God, the Magnolia Room is simply AMAZING! Iâm only allowed to go once a month. đ€Ł Their stewed pork chops are the best things on the menu. The red velvet cake is the only dessert Iâll get. đđđđ Glad you guys enjoyed it!
Watching from Bangladesh đ§đ©đ§đ©
I love mashed potatoes, though ours are very different. We use mustard oil, green chilli, onion, and coriander. It's aromatic and spicy đ„đ„ We eat mashed potatoes with rice. Like Andrew, I also like deep-fried fish. I don't like it when the fish is fishy lol đ
I love watching you two, always so much fun and joy.
I think it's interesting that Brits are always confused by Sweet Potato casserole/souffle as a side because it's sweet, but as an American it just makes sense to me- same with corn bread (which typically is sweeter than a flour roll), just having a variety of flavors and textures in a main meal is perfection to me
