Sonora: A Taste of Rancho Life | Pati’s Mexican Table S9 E10

In this episode of Pati’s Mexican Table, I get a traditional taste of northern Mexican cuisine in the Sonoran countryside at the historic Hacienda del Labrador. Owner and my host for the day, Mayte, invites me into her kitchen to share family recipes, giving me a lesson in authentic Sonoran ranch cooking.

We hand-mill fresh corn to make the tastiest tamales with chile verde and queso fresco, and we make rustic pumpkin empanadas. A true taste of rancho life.

I bring those norteño flavors back to my kitchen so you can try them, too. On the menu… Sweet and spicy fresh corn, chile verde and cheese tamales. Grilled chile-rubbed pork chops topped with a juicy pickled grape salad. And to wash it all down — a frosty frozen grape margarita.
