Found Delicious Wood-Fired Momos, Thukpa & Chowmein At This Quiet Tibetan Village Near Nagarhole!
Sometimes, the best culinary discoveries happen when your original plans completely fall through. Just outside the gates of the Nagarhole forest lies Rabgaeling, a quiet Tibetan settlement that most travelers drive right past. I stumbled upon its culinary heart entirely by accident, after driving out to find an old landmark restaurant only to discover it was no longer there.
But that unexpected detour led to a wonderful, two-drive adventure into the heart of this beautiful community and its food.
Our first stop brings us to Dhasa Karma, a rustic café overlooking the village temple that now sits where the old restaurant used to be. Run by recent migrants who moved from Dharamshala just a few months ago, they serve up incredibly comforting, soul-warming bowls of thukpa and stir-fried chowmein.
However, the village had one more secret waiting for us, and to catch it, we had to make a second trip back strictly for lunch. We visit a humble Tibetan home where a wonderful couple has been quietly serving a slice of their culture to locals for nearly three decades. Operating right out of their own kitchen, Mr. and Mrs. Thupten prepare fresh meat momos entirely to order, steaming them over a traditional wood fire until the rich juices completely soak into the delicate casing.
Join us on this spontaneous journey as we pull up a chair, share a conversation with the locals, and taste some of the most authentic, wood-fired flavors on the edge of the forest.
What I ate:
Dhasa Karma
Chicken Thukpa
7.5/10
Chicken Chowmein
8/10
(I think I paid just over Rs. 200.)
Thupten
Buff Momos
Rs. 100
10/10
Note: Thupten is open only for lunch, Dhasa Karam is open through the day until early evening.
Happy Eating! 🙏

Hello team Food lovers TV. Why did you not post any elaborate episodes in 2 long months? Please don't do that. I really look forward to watching Kripal Sir talk about yummy food. Keep posting, and Happy eating! 😊
I can vouch the quality of Momos at these establishments looks quite appealing to eyes and mouth.
I guess they're Dimsum with thin layering is testament of purity and quality.
It's very hard to find these types of Dimsum or Momos here in Capital city.
It's like all commercial files volume of the mini secretariat here lying in dust and crowds racing for business with no merit for quality and standards.
I wish metro cities sellers would learn the art of momos / dimsum making and selling.
Looks nice. In Mizoram those types of momos are also made, Its good with fried vegetables too … cabbage, bean, pork, chicken etc.,
Here we meet once again!! GOTR after a long time!! ❤
