I only do it when I've been done eating for about 15 to 20 minutes and I see the staff sitting over in the corner talking about going out partying after the shift or on their cell phones and it's my signal to them that they are failing at their job and the fault should be with management and their wait staff not the clientele.
The weight staff that are remarking on this post obviously don't know how to do their job well because he would've never gotten to the point of a customer moving their empty plates.
So wait the thing we are missing here is “fancy” and catering operate different. I think if you do this at Chili’s or Waffle House they won’t mind. Lol
yeah, the reason they ask you don't is because it gets food on the dishes, or isn't stacked properly and can fall. something I do, and it's still a stretch, always ask for a water and when it's finished, you can put your used silverware in it

Dang. I’ve done this too. If it’s not helping the staff and restaurant, then I’ll stop. Thanks for the info.

It all depends on the place you're at. If you go to Nando's, they wouldn't mind, but obviously you wouldn't do it at a 5-star restaurant.

Seems pretty dumb to me
Still doing it. I always get thanked by servers for us being so helpful, especially as a family of 7. I was a server and this never bothered me.
