I don’t know I feel like the comments were a catalyst of the plot to push in her position in the hero’s life, her cold demeanor pushing him into another woman’s arms when he obviously wanted his wife. This idea stems from him asking if because he had rejected intimacy couple days prior and began to profusely apologize and beg her to want him and not look at other men. Also from how he was uncomfortable with her telling him not to do his usual touches of intimacy with her anymore (Kisses before he leaves for work) and how he reacted to her allowing another woman to go handle his belongings when he asked her if she could pack for him. I believe that the heroine was slowly forcing herself into the Hero’s life. I believe the Hero was genuinely happy where his relationship with his wife was and the Heroine and comments completely dismantled things. The comments were forcing her into the role of the cold and distant wife thus forth pushing forward the plot. Their communication was beyond offbeat and if it was a little stronger than maybe this story would be different, but it’s not that good the way it is now.
Why would he have a shower and then wear same wet clothes from the night before (where's the sense in that?)
