Why One Fast Food Chain Has Two Names

The merger of Checkers and Rally’s was supposed to create a fast-food powerhouse. But instead… it nearly destroyed both brands. On this episode of Weird History Food From we’re looking at the bizarre story of Checkers and Rally’s and how the combined franchises went from bankruptcy scares to a drive-thru success.

  1. That's cool and did have some with it's sister brands Carl's Jr never hit Rally's or Checkers not seen in California must be in other states far to the East or the Deep South like Florida.

  2. Here in the Baton Rouge area, we had Fast Track which operated on the same drive-thru only basis…they’ve gone out of business back in the late-90s, but the buildings are easy to spot because they’re so distinct. I think there are three that are now Raising Canes, all operating the same drive-thru only setup.

  3. Love how you guys always compare every burger with a 2nd patty as some version of the Big Mac.

McDonalds was not the first burger spot to offer a double patty burger. They just decided to put a 3rd bun part in the mix. So unless a burger spots double burger has a slice of bun in the middle, it is NOT anyone's version of a Big Mac. Its just a double burger.

  4. Checkers has been apart of my childhood visiting my grandparents in Florida. I'm in Seattle wa now and I crave those fries! The frozen fries just won't do…. wish they would make their way up here

  5. My only interaction with Checkers was in a Walmart in Clermont, Florida. There was a Checkers, I was hungry, had never had it so I decided to grab a burger. I get up to the counter and they're running a special: 2 massive burgers topped high with toppings for $4. The price seemed too good to be true but I ordered them. I got them, expecting some nasty ass cheap beef and soggy buns. Instead, they were actually great. I've had better, but for the price they couldn't be beat. I ordered a couple more to eat later and also got some fries. Holy hell, had I been missing out on their fries, those were fantastic.

  6. We had two Rally's two I'n my city in the last 30 years the first was only there for 2 years cause miss management became a Wendy's been there ever since the 2nd one was in a old Arby's that closed cause service sucked when first opened service was ok but went down hill from there took 30 min to get your food in the drive thru with nobody else in line now you ain't going to believe it it's an Arby's again😂

  7. I love the constantly evolving combined company name throughout the video 😂

  8. There's another fast food chain with two names.
Burger King is actually called Hungry Jacks in Australia, this is because a shop in Adelaide already trademarked Burger King so they were forced to use a different name.

  9. Better question is why Rally’s people try to tell you the fries are better there than checkers😂. Bihh it’s the same exact damn thing!

  10. Always been a fan. Theres one on Queens Blvd, under the train in Long Island City, Queens. One of the few with indoor seating and no drive thru. Open super late and the food is great!
