Trying Every Restaurant on the NYT 2025 Top 100 List – Szechuan Mountain House (#9)

One of my absolute favorite places in the city to go with a group, especially for the fish soup! Also think the Flushing location is better than the EV location

📍Szechuan Mountain House – Flushing, Queens

  1. Szechuan Mountain House is great…and there are so many similar places right there in Flushing that don't make any lists. We're are spoiled in Queens!!

  2. The little koi pond is a fun feature, but made me think about swimming around in a little hot fish soup pond, which is perhaps wrong.

  3. 😂 the chicken is called laziji in pinyin (romanized) and the point of the sheer amount of chili peppers is the treasure hunt for chicken. It's a stylistic presentation.

  4. omg that Suan Cai Yu looks so fire. fish with pickled mustard greens broth is the most goated sichuan dish

  5. all laziji is like that
it’s normal to serve it with that many chillis and isnt really ever another way

that all looks like crazy good sichuan food

  6. Really liked the bowl they served the mapo tofu in. Makes a great presentation. Would love to try it sometime.

  7. One of my best friends is from Chengdu, and this is her favorite Sichuan restaurant outside of Sichuan. Yes, that includes the rest of China.

  8. Never not impressed that you go out with a bright white t-shirt to eat. No matter what I do I spill a little something on my shirt every time.

  9. this place was nice but i didnt find it to be anything special over any other good chinese place
