Indian Street Food Like You’ve Never Seen | India’s Oldest Pizzeria 500+ Sourdough Pizzas Since 1993

What happens when Italy meets one of the world’s oldest living cities?
In this episode, I explore two incredible food stories from Varanasi that couldn’t be more different.
Our journey begins at what is believed to be one of India’s oldest pizza restaurants, where authentic Italian-style flatbread pizzas have been served for decades. The story started when Italian music students came to Varanasi to learn Indian classical music and unknowingly introduced pizza to a local school principal. That small experiment eventually became one of the city’s most iconic eateries. We also uncover the truth behind the rumor that Indians aren’t welcome here and taste their legendary pizzas, famous apple pie, and other specialties.
From there, we head into the heart of Banaras to experience one of the city’s busiest and most beloved street food destinations. From the famous Tamatar Chaat to crispy Aloo Tikki Chaat, Dahi Bhalla, and other Banarasi classics, we discover why people line up every day for these unforgettable flavors.
This isn’t just a food tour. It’s a journey through two completely different sides of Varanasi—one inspired by Italy, the other deeply rooted in Banarasi tradition.
