My Great Grandma born in the 1890s***told me she used to go into the woods and get chestnuts that filled up her apron,in seconds..along with berries and other nuts..on Bluff mountain NC where she was raised on self sufficient farmland…when the great depression happened..she didnt even know it…since they raised their own foods…later on,she said the chestnut trees all died out…because people began fencing land^,in her words.

This comment section is wild. Food forrests are dumb. People in cities can't go walk about picking berries. Imagine 8 mil New Yorkers heading into the countyside each day to get food. Obviously, intense commercial farming is the more practical approach. Even people living in rural areas where food forrests might be practical, would still prefer just going to a store.

I can offer a "reason" that will be somewhat hard to swallow, let alone digest, but it is something that is consistant throughout history.
It may be especially difficult if you see yourself as empiricist, but is the truth, none the less.
It's all held in an understanding that we are all connected through a spiritual undercurrent that makes for the collective push and pull of progress and regression that is the "good and evil" of mans every endevour, even those that precede our current epoch.
And that within this, there are two primary forms of directionality, that makes for the push and pull we collwctively experience. One is… service to others positive and the other is service to self negative.
The former is one that sees community, co-operation and the unity with all things. That our duty as human dictates that we operate in service other selves, and so in turn create goodness and are in alignment with our divine predilection. That like native Americans who looked at what they did and the impact of their actions on the next 7 generations was what drove their choices. That no one person was above others and that chiefs weren't "the boss" but whp were in service to the happiness and sustainability of the tribe, whose warriors were the defenders, not bullies or strongmen, but watched over the women children and elders. This is the directive of which we lead by love, and in consideration of all life, including nature and the environment.
And then there is the service to self mentality, that sees the self as better than others, who seeks domination over others and so values laws so he can gain power, manipulate and coerce other to himself. These were the colonizers, whose greed was like a cancer, that we can see on into today as the greed and selfishness is has corrupted the governments who even disreguard their own laws for the sake of self enrichment.
And so I say this to emphasize the idea that the collective consciousness is what ties us all to the explaination. That there is on this planet a collective, ebb and flow of energy in both negative and positive directions that is the "spiritual warfare" spoken of in various relgions.
It shoul also be noted that it was from the "flow" out of the period (named in this great video), that came a spiritual turn in the late 1800's into the early 1900's that seen a great leap in human evolution in science and technology. That things were being invented and discovered in the US and Europe, as well as spiritual movements in Asia that brought gurus from India, to the US.
The same time the Wrght bros. did their thing in Kittyhawk was french inventors who were weeks away from their own test flight.. These different momentums of consciousness is best seen in.. the inventions of Edison and his personal gain powered by the greed of capitalistic interest, vs. the desire for free energy for all, of Tesla.. that seen him smeared and defamed, because of the darkness of selfish people.

Some food is so soft that it can't be shipped to market, some can preserved longer.. Also if you had animals in the woods that were competing for survival, it would make sense , in order to control the pests and disease from insects.
