Rescheduled White House Correspondents’ Dinner will have tighter security, fewer guests
The Secret Service is tightening security ahead of Friday’s rescheduled White House Correspondents’ Dinner. The original dinner in April was shut down after a gunman opened fire as he rushed through a screening checkpoint. CBS News senior White House correspondent Weijia Jiang, president of the White House Correspondents’ Association, joins to discuss.

The entire press corps should issue an immediate, unified boycott of the White House Correspondents' Dinner. Participating in this event under the current political climate does nothing but provide a veneer of institutional normalcy to an administration that systematically attacks the press, degrades democratic norms, and spews unhinged conspiracy theories.
Journalists face daily pressure to cover press briefings where MAGA functionaries lie, demean reporters, and spread disinformation under the guise of official government business. But sitting in tuxedos and gowns to act as a captive, smiling audience while Trump uses the stage to scream obscenities, hurl abuse, and attack the press is completely unjustifiable.
For just one night, the press corps needs to stop playing along with the illusion that this is a normal presidency. Standing up together and leaving an empty room would send an unmistakable message of solidarity with every journalist, public servant, and citizen who has been threatened, vilified, and targeted from the podium of the White House. It is time to refuse to normalize authoritarian behavior for the sake of a black-tie tradition.🇺🇸
