Is this the best Indian restaurant in the world?
Gymkhana has been on my bucket list for a looong time since it’s one of the most decorated Indian restaurants in the world, and often touted as the best in the world. The mandatory prepaid minimum being 150 pounds per person ($200pp) meant I was going into this meal with $600 already invested and I was more worried about making sure we got out value out of the meal rather than enjoying it, not to mention the service was not at the caliber of other 2 Michelin star restaurants I’ve been to. Overall left feeling a bit disappointed, especially after visiting Dishoom a couple days prior and enjoying that more (at a way lower price).

a minimum spending, a pre pay to even get in over $100, forgetting a meal then not only refusing to bring it out but telling you you have plenty of fucking food? they’re on a one way track to losing those stars especially in a city with plenty of better options on every corner the gall is fucking astounding
that down payment to enter and spending limit seems like they have plenty of money as is if they expected any tip jesus christ you couldn’t pay me to eat there
Try veeraswamy before it closes. Only 1 star. It way better than gymkhana and dishoom.

Talking out of personal experience, that is not! the best Indian restaurant in the World. In fact I won't even put it in the top 50. It's just Indian food watered down for white people. As authentic as Hawaiian pizza is to Italian cuisine.
I’m sorry, the only dessert they had was ice cream?? That’s so insulting, Indian desserts are so unique and flavorful.

Planning a trip to London and Gymkhana – because of how often ive heard it mentioned – felt like an absolute must amidst all the options that are “maybes” – but I don’t know now…! Not liking the minimum spend thing and wanted to hear a lot more certainty/enthusiasm in this review. 🫤

Too many off putting things for a Michelin – the minimum spend is clearly set too high and then not wanting to give you a dish that you essentially already paid for? And the more expensive dish isn’t great? A prix fix that makes no sense but to pocket money? Oof…
I’m sorry some Michelin star servers are such asssholes! I’ve worked as a server for 10+ years at nice places, they just were never Michelin star ones. The constant stories I hear about rude servers constantly makes me wanna barf! Get out of fine dining if you’re not ok with hospitality!
I’m sorry but the best Indian restaurants are the ones IN INDIA! To get the Indian love and hospitality, the happy head nods and the WHOLE EXPERIENCE please come to India. You won’t believe the incredible tastes you get at some of the small places on the streets! You are welcome to my country ❤
