Massive Bengali Home-Cooked Feast | Traditional Lunch & Dinner in Murshidabad
Today’s episode takes us inside two Bengali household kitchens in Berhampore for an unforgettable journey through traditional home-cooked lunches and dinners. Just family recipes, regional delicacies and meals prepared with love.
Our first stop is Sobuj Bari. We join our host, Souvik Ji, along with Mira Di and Sahadeb Ji in their backyard kitchen as they prepare some of the dishes for an elaborate Bengali lunch over a wood fire. An exceptional home cook, Mira Di takes us through recipes that have been part of her family’s culinary traditions for generations.
On the menu are slow-cooked Handi Mutton, the seasonal favourite Aam Potol Bata Maach Jhol, and beautifully barbequed chicken. We watch each dish come together from scratch, learning about the ingredients, traditional cooking techniques, and the little nuances that make Bengali home cooking so special.
The barbequed chicken is impossible to resist. Fresh off the fire, it is beautifully charred on the outside, incredibly juicy on the inside, and polished off within minutes.
Then comes the grand lunch.
The table is laden with an incredible spread featuring Macher Matha Diye Pui Shaak, Macher Matha Diye Dal, Dumurer Tarkari, Uchhe Aloo Bhate, Aloo Posto, rice, dal, and several other regional favourites. Every dish tells a story, rooted in seasonality, local produce, and generations of family traditions.
As we savour the meal, Mira Di shares fascinating stories about Bengali food culture, age-old cooking practices, and the memories associated with these recipes. It is these conversations that make the experience even more memorable.
As evening falls, we head to another home in Berhampore.
Aman and his family welcome us for what we expect to be a simple family dinner. Instead, we are treated to yet another magnificent Bengali feast.
Since Aman is in the fish trade, freshwater fish naturally takes centre stage.
The dinner spread includes Bhaat, Kolmi Shaak Bhaja, Begun Bhaja, Arhar Dal, Paneer Tarkari, Aloo Potol Chingri, Katla Macher Kalia, and the star of the evening-Shorshe Ilish. The rich Katla Macher Kalia and the iconic Hilsa cooked in a pungent mustard gravy beautifully showcase why freshwater fish holds such a special place in Bengali cuisine.
Every bite reflects the freshness of the ingredients, the simplicity of home cooking, and the richness of Bengal’s culinary heritage.

I request my bengali brothers and sisters to boycott him. Just look at his all of bengali home cooked videos, he intentionally added only non veg items and fish items to potray stereotype on bengalis. I am not telling he should added only veg items but bengalis have many and many veg items in their home cooked foods. Both veg and non veg all are part of bengali culture. Just look at when he tries to speak bengali, he didn't even speak 50% bengali after he was tought to speak the sentence, it's basically nothing else but mocking bengali culture. You can find a specific this kind of population in North India.
