How to: Crochet Waffle Stitch Scarf

How to crochet a scarf using the waffle stitch technique. This is for beginners who have a basic understanding of chains, sc and dc. This scarf works up fast and the pattern creates an almost double thickness fabric. Very thick, warm and cozy.

I used ‘I Love This Yarn’ from Hobby Lobby which is a worsted weight 4-ply acrylic yarn. I used a ‘J/6.00mm’ hook and a foundation row of 35 stitches. I used a total of 4 skeins of yarn for a scarf approximately 8′ long (without fringe) and 9″ wide.

Foundation: 1:55
Row A: 4:58
Row B: 7:12
Last row: 11:40
Fringe: 13:18

Pattern:

Foundation row: ch3, yo, ch1 in first ch, yo, pull through 2 loops on hook, pull through 2 loops on hook (1 loop should remain). *yo, ch1 in previous ch1 at bottom of previous stitch, pull through 2, pull through 2*, repeat from * to * for a total odd number of foundation stitches.
Row A: ch2. fpdc in second to last stitch of previous row, *dc, fpdc*. Repeat * to * until second stitch from end. dc in top ch of previous rows turn ch2.
Row B: ch2. dc in second to last stitch of previous row, *fpdc, dc*. Repeat * to * until second stitch from end. dc in top ch of previous rows turn ch2.
Continue alternating rows A and B until desired length.
Last row: ch1. sc in every stitch across. sc in top ch of previous rows turn. Fasten off.
