Homemade Spaghetti Sauce

How to make spaghetti sauce better than any jarred variety out there! This takes awhile to cook on the stove top but it is definitely worth it! You can use meatballs, ground beef or turkey in place of the Italian sausage.

What you’ll need:
2 Tbsp olive oil
1 medium onion, chopped finely
2-3 cloves garlic, minced
2 (14oz) cans diced tomatoes
1 tsp salt
1/2 tsp sugar
1/2 tsp dried basil
1/4 tsp black pepper
1 (6oz) can tomato paste
1/2 lb Italian sausage

In a heavy bottomed sauce pan, saute onions and garlic in the olive oil. When onions are translucent, add tomatoes, salt and sugar. Heat to a simmer over medium heat. Reduce heat to low and cover. Cook for 90 minutes, stirring every 10-15 minutes. Add tomato paste, sausage, basil and pepper. Cook covered, for an additional 30 minutes, stirring every 10-15 minutes. Serve over your favorite pasta or use for your favorite bake. Enjoy!
