Vikas Khanna: Racism, Loss and the Brutal Journey to the Top | Table 1 with Vir Sanghvi

Vikas Khanna opens up like never before. From arriving in New York with almost nothing to facing blatant racism in French kitchens, this is the brutally honest story behind one of the world’s most famous Indian chefs.

In the first episode of Table 1 with Vir Sanghvi, Vikas Khanna reflects on the defining moments and the pain that fueled his journey to the top. He shares the profound heartbreak of losing his sister, how Shah Rukh Khan helped him through his lowest point, and the incredible story of turning “pain into purpose” to open Bungalow, one of the most impossible-to-book restaurants in America. He speaks candidly about rejection, resilience, devastating personal loss and the relentless drive that shaped his career.

Today, Vikas Khanna is one of the most recognised Indian chefs in the world. He is a restaurateur, filmmaker and judge on MasterChef India. But as he reveals in this conversation, the road to success was far more difficult than most people realise.

Table 1 with Vir Sanghvi, produced by Culinary Culture Studios, brings together influential chefs, restaurateurs, hoteliers and hospitality leaders for honest conversations about ambition, failure, risk and the realities behind building successful empires.
